“Boston Lyric Stage’s masterpiece ‘Yellow Faces’ to be performed in June, a comedy within a play”

The longest-running stage arts organization in Boston, “Lyric Stage Boston,” is currently performing the comedy play “Yellow Face” and offering discounted tickets to the audience.

The non-profit organization, “Lyric Stage Company of Boston,” was established in 1974 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The stage of the organization is located at “140 Clarendon Street” in Boston, where they stage multiple plays and musical performances every year.

From May 31st to June 23rd, “Lyric Stage” presents the stage play “Yellow Face” written by the renowned American playwright David Henry Hwang. This comedy first premiered in 2007 and has received numerous accolades over the years, including being a Pulitzer Prize finalist.

In this comedy, the author intertwines reality and fiction, using a protagonist named “David Henry Hwang” to explore issues of Asian culture and identity. The main character writes a protest piece in response to the casting of Caucasian actors in the Broadway musical “Miss Saigon” for Eurasian roles; however, he unintentionally ends up choosing a Caucasian actor to play an Asian character in his own play.

The performance at “Lyric Stage Boston” is directed by Ted Hewlett, with Michael Hisamoto portraying the lead role of “David Henry Hwang.” To celebrate their 50th anniversary, the organizers are offering a discount code “CELEBRATE,” allowing the audience to select any seat at a price of 50 dollars after inputting the code.
