Blinken points out China is providing military supplies and technical support to Russia

In the past month, the United States has discovered that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been providing support to Russia, including unmanned drones, missile technology, satellite images, and machine tools, to help Russia maintain its war against Ukraine. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will raise this issue during the ongoing meeting of the Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers and also during his upcoming visit to China in the coming weeks.

The U.S. State Department stated that Secretary of State Antony Blinken traveled to Capri, Italy on the evening of April 16 to attend the G7 foreign ministers meeting and express Washington’s concerns about China’s support for the Russian defense industry. Earlier this month, Blinken also raised this issue with NATO foreign ministers in Brussels.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters on the 16th that the United States has observed materials being transported from China to Russia over the past month. These materials are being used by Russia to rebuild its defense industry base and produce weapons currently seen on the battlefield in Ukraine, which the U.S. finds very concerning.

Miller said, “The Secretary of State does indeed plan to travel to China in the coming weeks, and you can be certain that he will bring up this issue.”

Last week, U.S. officials briefed reporters on the supplies provided by China (CCP) to Russia, including unmanned drones, missile technology, satellite images, and machine tools. While these supplies may not constitute lethal aid, they do contribute to Russia’s military buildup to sustain its two-year-long war against Ukraine.

U.S. officials stated that following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, they issued strong warnings to China (CCP), which led the Chinese government to reconsider its plans to provide military equipment to Russia.

The United States and its allies have accused the CCP of providing tacit support to Russia, with Chinese officials holding dozens of meetings with their Russian counterparts since the full-scale invasion.
