In a recent announcement by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Chinese Communist Party on July 24, 2025, it was revealed that Wu Shenghua, a member of the 20th Central Committee and the Secretary of the Communist Party in Bijie City, Guizhou Province, has been investigated for serious violations of discipline and law while in office.
This revelation came just six days after the Central Inspection Team arrived in Guizhou. Wu Shenghua, born in 1966 in Duyun, Guizhou, has been a long-time worker in the province. Over the course of his career, he held various positions, including Deputy County Magistrate, Deputy Secretary of the County Party Committee, Secretary of Guiding County, Deputy Governor of Qiannan Prefecture, Deputy Secretary of the Prefecture Party Committee, and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee. He served as Acting Governor of Qiannan Prefecture in 2016 before officially being appointed the Governor the following year.
Wu Shenghua was promoted to Vice Governor of Guizhou Province in 2020 and later became a member of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee in April 2022. He assumed the role of Secretary of the Bijie City Party Committee in May of the same year, which eventually led to his downfall.
The last public appearance of Wu Shenghua was on July 18, when he attended a meeting of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and the work mobilization meeting of the 12th Central Inspection Team in Guizhou, as shown on Guizhou News Broadcast.
According to reports by Caixin, on July 21, Wu Shenghua was taken away for investigation in Guiyang.
Wu Shenghua was previously a candidate member of the 19th and 20th Central Committees of the Chinese Communist Party. He is the 37th senior Party official to undergo public scrutiny and investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission this year.
It is noteworthy that in the past 13 years since Bijie became a city, three party secretaries have been investigated, including Qin Rupei, Zhou Jiankun, and Wu Shenghua.
During his four and a half years as Governor of Qiannan Prefecture, several of Wu Shenghua’s former subordinates have also been investigated. This includes Zou Han, former Deputy Chairman of the Political Consultative Conference, Huang Guilin, former Deputy Governor of Qiannan Prefecture and Secretary of Fuquan City Party Committee who was investigated in April this year, as well as Zheng Shaofeng, former Deputy Director of the People’s Congress of Qiannan Prefecture and Secretary of Hui Shui County Party Committee, who was investigated in November last year.
