Biden to Deliver First National Address on Wednesday after Withdrawal

On Wednesday night, US President Biden will address the nation on television for the first time since announcing that he will not seek re-election. Biden, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week, has been isolating at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and has not made any public appearances. However, he made a phone call to his campaign headquarters on Monday, during which Vice President Harris visited him.

Biden’s personal physician, Kevin O’Connor, stated in an update on the President’s health on Tuesday that Biden’s virus test results came back negative. O’Connor mentioned that Biden’s symptoms have been improving, and that his vital signs have remained normal with clear lungs. Prior to receiving the negative test results, Biden’s motorcade departed from his residence in Rehoboth Beach and returned to the White House.

The physician mentioned that Biden had not experienced a fever during his infection and that his condition remained stable. O’Connor also stated that he would monitor Biden’s health for any potential relapses and provide regular updates on his condition to the White House.

In accordance with the President’s public schedule, Biden is set to depart from Delaware on Tuesday at 12:30 PM and then fly from Dover Air Force Base to Andrews Joint Base, returning to the White House around 2:30 PM.

On Sunday afternoon, Biden announced that he would not seek re-election and endorsed Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee. Harris has swiftly gained support from Democratic Party members and secured enough delegate backing.

According to official sources, Biden is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Thursday. Netanyahu arrived in the US less than 24 hours after Biden’s announcement of not seeking re-election.

Netanyahu is expected to deliver a speech in Congress on Wednesday. Before departing for Washington D.C. from Israel, Netanyahu told reporters, “Regardless of who the American people choose as the next president, Israel will stand with the United States.” He emphasized the importance of the US and Israel standing together during times of war and uncertainty.

Biden and his team have stated that during the remainder of his term, securing the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas will be an important mission.

Reportedly, Netanyahu has also requested to meet with former US President Trump this week. It is currently unclear whether Trump has agreed to this meeting.
