As China’s political and economic environment worsens, many people are finding ways to go abroad. However, there was recent news from the US that is not favorable for Chinese migrants. The US Department of Homeland Security announced on Tuesday (July 2) that a group of Chinese individuals attempting to enter the country illegally was repatriated by charter plane, marking the largest repatriation activity since 2018.

According to the Associated Press, the charter plane repatriated a total of 116 Chinese illegal immigrants. Secretary of Homeland Security Mayocas stated in a statement, “We will continue to enforce immigration laws and repatriate individuals who have no legal basis to stay in the US.”

Earlier this year, the US also repatriated a small number of Chinese individuals back to the Chinese city of Shenyang via a charter plane.

With the deteriorating relations between China and the US in recent years, it has become increasingly difficult for Chinese people to obtain US visas, leading to a surge in Chinese individuals resorting to illegal immigration.

In 2023, over 37,000 Chinese citizens were arrested at the southern border, ten times more than the previous year. Ecuador, a Central American country, has become a major transit point for Chinese migrants entering the US. Recently, Ecuador suspended visa-free entry for Chinese tourists citing an “alarming increase in irregular migration.”

Moving on to opinions about the US repatriation operation, how do Tang Hao and Qin Yue perceive this rare initiative by the US to repatriate Chinese illegal immigrants? It seems that the narrow path for Chinese people to immigrate to the US is becoming narrower due to recent actions by the US and Ecuador. What should Chinese people facing political persecution and seeking freedom do?

In response to the narrowing path to the US, Yuting and Qin Peng suggest that the path is not entirely closed, as both US and Chinese policies play a role. Despite certain restrictions, avenues for migration still exist. Moreover, actions by the Chinese government might prompt more people to attempt migration, emphasizing the importance of individual assessments and the exploration of other countries as potential destinations.

As the economic situation in China worsens and the number of Chinese migrants increases, underground networks also facilitate migration, indicating that avenues may not be as restricted as perceived. Additionally, they urge caution in undertaking risky activities and recommend strategies such as staying informed and potentially considering other options outside of the US.

As the economic challenges persist in China, the tension escalates in the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait, as observed through China’s aggressive actions in these regions.

In recent years, tensions between China and the Philippines have escalated in the South China Sea. Former US Deputy Secretary of State Pompeo suggests that the conflicts between China and the Philippines serve as a rehearsal for an invasion of Taiwan. Furthermore, China’s coercion towards Taiwan continues to escalate through various measures, including the recent detention of a Taiwanese fishing boat by Chinese maritime authorities.

Legal expert Yuan Hongbing in Australia revealed that a faction within the CCP provided three lists aiming to influence Taiwan’s internal dynamics. The authenticity of these lists remains in question, highlighting the intricate power plays within CCP leadership.

In conclusion, while the lists’ authenticity remains contentious, recent events and the political backdrop suggest a high likelihood of their validity. The CCP’s methods of repression and targeting dissidents align with the introduction of these lists, emphasizing the authoritarian and manipulative nature of China’s political regime.
