On the eve of the CCP’s military parade on September 3rd, there have been four instances of civil protests in various parts of China. Following the incident of anti-Communist slogans at Chongqing University City and rumors of someone shouting “Xi Jinping step down” at the State Council building, a large poster demanding the “General Secretary step down” has been circulating on the internet in Beijing.
Overseas media platforms have shown that on August 31st, in a notice board in Beijing, a large poster with the title “General Secretary step down” was posted, outlining three specific demands.
The first demand states that “given the complex and changing international situation, China’s political work should adapt accordingly. However, the effectiveness of the General Secretary’s political work is not apparent, and corruption has become a rational and legitimate behavior.”
The second demand suggests that in recent days, the CCP’s television channels have praised the General Secretary extensively, highlighting every detail of his “achievements” during his tenure in Fujian and Zhejiang. But as a leader, his work is a matter of duty.
The third demand directly states that “based on the current situation, (Xi Jinping) is not suitable for the position of General Secretary,” and so on.
The signature on this large poster is “Old Worker,” dated August 13, 2025. However, it is currently unclear where this poster was specifically posted, and whether the “Old Worker” signatory is an individual or a group.
In the preceding days, China has seen several similar political appeals openly calling for Xi Jinping to step down and the Communist Party to be ousted.
On August 30th, exiled Shanghai entrepreneur Hu Liren disclosed on his social media that “I want to expose a very shocking incident. Yesterday at midnight, a senior official working in Zhongnanhai in Beijing told me that on August 28th around 3pm, someone suddenly shouted ‘Xi Jinping step down’ inside the State Council office in Zhongnanhai, and this official was subsequently controlled and taken away.”
When responding to inquiries from a reporter from Da Ji Yuan, Hu Liren said that this was deliberately disclosed to him by a ministerial-level official, without specifying the exact source. He mentioned that such an incident would not appear in the official reports of the CCP, as shouting “Xi Jinping step down” in Zhongnanhai is a blatant political detonation, the biggest taboo in a dictatorship regime.
Another anti-Communist incident occurred on August 29th at 10pm, where multiple large anti-Communist slogans were suddenly displayed on a high-rise building in Xijie, Chongqing University City, lasting more than 50 minutes.
The content of the large slogans includes statements like “Without the Communist Party, there can be a new China, freedom is not a gift but a right to be reclaimed,” “Overthrow the red fascist regime, overthrow the Communist Party dictatorship,” “Rise up, those who refuse to be slaves, resist and reclaim your rights,” “No lies, only truth, no enslavement but freedom, the Communist Party dictatorship step down,” and more.
The initiator of this event, Qi Hong, later revealed to the media that he and his family had left China on August 20th and remotely operated the projection on August 29th.
Qi Hong stated that he was inspired by the Four Bridges Event involving Peng Lifa, the Blank Paper Movement youth, and the One-Day Bridge Event in Chengdu in April this year, and wanted to express his thoughts in his own way.
He started planning for this action since July this year and originally intended to use drones to drop leaflets, but later decided to follow the example of Chai Song and act by projecting slogans. In 2023, Chai Song remotely controlled a projection outside a building in Jinan, Shandong, shouting slogans like “Down with the Communist Party, down with Xi Jinping” before the CCP’s two sessions were held.
