Beijing practicing lawyer Zhang Xiaoling has been undergoing annual physical examinations at IKang Guobin for 10 years, all showing normal results. However, in 2024, she was diagnosed with advanced stage cancer. Zhang Xiaoling questioned the presence of “misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis” at IKang Guobin, even bluntly stating that the physical examinations there were “fake”.
According to Zhang Xiaoling’s introduction to The Tip News, as a member of the Beijing Bar Association, she has been enjoying the physical examination services purchased by the Beijing Bar Association for each lawyer. From 2013 to 2023, she underwent annual physical examinations at the Beijing branch of IKang Guobin Health Examination Management Group Co., Ltd., and the results for her kidneys always showed “no obvious abnormalities”.
In 2024, when Zhang Xiaoling switched to another medical institution, during an abdominal color Doppler ultrasound, it was found that “there was a cyst in the right kidney, with a low echo seen in the right kidney, measuring 3.5cm × 2.8cm, showing lobulation, with abundant blood flow signal”, and she was advised to further check at the hospital.
In October 2024, Zhang Xiaoling was suspected of having “clear cell renal cell carcinoma” at Peking University International Hospital, and after undergoing right kidney removal surgery, the pathology showed “clear cell renal cell carcinoma”.
Due to discomfort after the surgery, in February 2025, Zhang Xiaoling went to a hospital abroad for examination and was diagnosed with “renal cancer bone metastasis”, which had reached an advanced stage.
Zhang Xiaoling stated that she consulted many expert doctors afterwards, all of whom told her that the kidney cancer and bone metastasis she suffered from did not develop overnight. If they had been detected early and treated promptly, her condition would not have been so severe.
In an interview with Xiaoxiang Morning Post, Zhang Xiaoling stated that she was never informed of the “cancer risk” by IKang Guobin, nor were there any “cancer warnings” issued regarding her kidneys and spine. Even in the 2023 examination report which already indicated “calcifications” in the right kidney, IKang Guobin did not inform her of any cancer risks. Recently, she brought the 2023 examination report to IKang Guobin’s doctor for interpretation, and the doctor said, “Your calcification is not a problem, just like when your finger gets a cut and scars, that’s also called calcification. It’s normal, you don’t have to worry.”
On July 4th, Zhang Xiaoling sent a lawyer’s letter to IKang Guobin, and complained and reported to the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, Beijing Municipal Government, and other departments.
In the lawyer’s letter, Zhang Xiaoling requested that they provide her blood test samples and data during her examinations at IKang Guobin within 5 days, as well as provide evidence of the legality of the technology and the qualification of the relevant testing personnel, but she has not received a response.
In response, on July 16, IKang Guobin stated that the company is discussing how to handle Zhang Xiaoling’s complaint, and currently cannot provide an accurate response to the relevant questions journalists are trying to verify. They also mentioned they are unsure about when there will be a discussion result.
Subsequently, Zhang Xiaoling stated that she received a call from an IKang Guobin staff member, but as she was not available at that time, she requested them to contact her after 4 PM. However, she never received another call from them afterwards, and the callback displayed as “unavailable”.
On July 17th, “Woman who was not diagnosed with cancer after 10 years of examination speaks out” surged to the top of Weibo’s hot search list.
Tianyancha shows that IKang Guobin was established in September 2004, with Li Zhi as the legal representative and a registered capital of 50 million RMB. Its business scope includes hospital management, enterprise management, health consulting services, medical device Internet information services, etc. According to change records, in April of this year, the company changed its legal representative and executives.
The surrounding risk information shows that entities under IKang Guobin like Beijing IKang Guobin Baiyun Hospital Co., Ltd., and Beijing IKang Guobin Xine Outpatient Department Co., Ltd., have been involved in medical disputes.
