“Beijing Four Bridges Incident Three-Year Anniversary: Netizens Pay Tribute to Peng Li”

Today, on the third anniversary of the Beijing Sītōngqiáo Incident, people around the world are spontaneously commemorating and paying tribute to the brave Sītōngqiáo warrior, Péng Lìfā (Péng Zàizhōu).

Many posts commemorating Péng Lìfā have appeared on overseas X platform.

Chinese activist in the United States, Zhōu Fēngsuǒ, stated, “Commemorate Péng Lìfā, take action, overthrow dictatorship, establish democracy.”

Chóngqìng anti-Communist projection hero, Qī Hóng, said: “Saluting the Sītōngqiáo warrior, Péng Lìfā. Your courage has shown the world that ordinary people living in China still have conscience and dignity, your cry broke the silence, you have proven the power of the individual still exists. This spark of freedom is still burning, illuminating more silent voices, never bowing to tyranny, may you soon be free!”

Beijing senior media figure, Gāo Yú, remarked, “Three years ago today, I was already ‘touring’, twenty-three days later the 20th National Congress was held. Because the whole country was clearing zeros, it could only be done in the suburbs of Beijing. What shocked me that day was seeing the Sītōngqiáo Incident online, knowing that this brave hero was named Péng Zàizhōu (Péng Lìfā).”

“Today, all Chinese people should be grateful to this hero. Without him, China would not have begun to end the zero clearing a month later, nor would the blank paper movement have erupted.”

Fear_Nation_Tea_of_the_World: “On October 13, 2022, banners were hung on Sītōngqiáo in Beijing saying ‘Don’t want nucleic acid, want to eat; don’t want lockdown, want freedom; don’t want lies, want dignity; don’t want Cultural Revolution, want reform; don’t want leaders, want votes; don’t be servants, be citizens.’ This sentence and the pattern of ‘not wanting…wanting…’ will be a key signal for China’s future transformation.”

“The Free Constitutional Alliance” praised Péng Lìfā’s actions: “This is the bravest civic action in contemporary China, a cry that tears apart the illusion of authoritarianism with one’s own flesh. The real era is not in the Great Hall, but on that bridge.”

Lawyer Chén Chuǎng posted in advance on October 11: “Péng Lìfā’s earth-shaking call on Sītōngqiáo, ‘strike, boycott classes, recall the national traitor Xí Jìnpíng’ is nearing its third anniversary, recommending Chén Ēn’s tribute song ‘Sītōngqiáo Anthem’ created for him, with powerful lyrics and performance.” (Link)

It is reported that the San Francisco branch of the China Democracy Party and the China Democracy Education Foundation will hold a commemoration event on the afternoon of October 14 (Tuesday) in front of the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco to mark the third anniversary of the Sītōngqiáo Incident and question the whereabouts of Péng Zàizhōu, denouncing the tyranny.

Three years ago on October 13, 2022, just a few days before the CCP’s “20th National Congress,” Chinese citizen Péng Lìfā (online name Péng Zàizhōu) publicly protested against CCP leader Xí Jìnpíng on the Sītōngqiáo Bridge in Beijing.

At that time, Péng Lìfā, disguised as a construction worker, hung multiple protest banners on the Sītōngqiáo Bridge in Beijing, ignited objects to create smoke to attract pedestrians and passing vehicles’ attention, and used a megaphone to broadcast the content of the banners.

Péng Lìfā was then taken away by the police. Despite the CCP authorities urgently clearing traces of the Sītōngqiáo Incident, relevant photos and text spread worldwide within a few hours.

Before carrying out the protest, Péng Lìfā had published a “Letter to Compatriots Nationwide” on ResearchGate, urging all the country’s military and police to “be brave like Cài Gē, Lǐ Lièjūn, Táng Jìyào, do not assist tyranny, do not sell your lives for dictators, do not become cannon fodder for dictators.”

The Beijing Sītōngqiáo Incident subsequently became a globally watched symbol of dissent. The event is also believed to have sparked the nationwide “blank paper movement” — a protest seen as one of the direct reasons prompting the CCP authorities to end the “zero-clearance policy” for the pandemic.

Over the past three years, the anti-CCP effects triggered by the banners hung at Sītōngqiáo in Beijing are still fermenting, and there have been individuals who have emulated Péng Lìfā’s act of defiance.

Since his arrest, Péng Lìfā’s whereabouts have remained unknown. In October 2023, the Voice of America learned through various reliable sources inside China that Péng Lìfā was still alive, but his family had not received any legal documents and were unable to hire a lawyer for him. Furthermore, both his wife and two daughters, as well as relatives from both sides of the family, are under strict surveillance by the authorities under the pretext of “protection.”

Human rights organizations have repeatedly called for the CCP to disclose Péng Lìfā’s whereabouts and provide a fair trial, but the Chinese government has never responded.

On July 8, 2023, news emerged that Péng Lìfā, after being secretly detained for over two years, had been sentenced to nine years in prison on charges of “provoking trouble and arson.” More recently, rumors circulating on overseas social media platforms indicated that insiders revealed Péng Lìfā had been permanently disabled due to beatings during his detention and interrogation. However, these reports have not been confirmed.

In April 2023, Péng Lìfā was selected as one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people. On October 13, 2023, U.S. congressional China Commission Chairman Gallagher nominated Péng Lìfā as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.
