Bay Area May Charity Concert Celebrates Mother’s Day.

In anticipation of Mother’s Day, a charity concert titled “Melodies in the Wind: Beauty of Taiwanese Music and Tradition” will be held on May 9, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the McAfee Performing Center in Saratoga, organized by the Timely Rain Foundation and co-hosted by the World Chinese Business Women’s Association Northern California Chapter.

The performance will feature pianist Jia Yuanyuan from Taiwan, along with Taiwanese musicians based in the Bay Area – erhu player Jiang Jiarui, guzheng player Lai Yijie, and violinist Wang Xinping. They will showcase Taiwanese folk songs, blending piano, erhu, guzheng, violin, and other diverse instruments to interpret emotional memories of Taiwan and motherhood.

Highlights of the concert program include a suite of four piano exercises adapted from Taiwanese folk songs by Liao Youxuan, a piano solo of “Wind Blowing” composed by Jiang Sansheng, a new interpretation of the Amis tribal folk song “Miss Malan” arranged for piano, the erhu and piano duet “Chardas,” a guzheng and erhu ensemble performance of “Spring River Flower Moon Night,” and violin solos of “Love Song” and “Taiwan Ode” by Xiao Tairan, among others.

President of the Timely Rain Foundation and also the President of the World Chinese Business Women’s Association Northern California Chapter, Luo Yanru, expressed that the concert aims to provide tangible support to artists facing difficulties and unite social forces to assist young Taiwanese artists from Taiwan and overseas.

The foundation has been cooperating with the Taiwan Painter’s Association to help artists with cerebral palsy step out of Taiwan and be seen by the world.

Erhu player Jiang Jiarui mentioned that this collaboration with the Timely Rain Foundation marks his first, hoping to convey love through music. He specially recommends the emotional pieces “Spring River Flower Moon Night” performed with Lai Yijie and “Chardas” in collaboration with Jia Yuanyuan, both suitable for the Mother’s Day ambiance.

Violinist Wang Xinping, who started playing the violin at the age of 5, initially exposed to music due to family requests, later persisted due to the sense of accomplishment brought by performances.

At the concert in May, she will play pieces like “Spring Wind” and “Taiwan Ode” by Xiao Tairan, along with the Taiwanese folk song “Picking Up the Broken Old Man.”

To celebrate the festive season, the organizers have introduced a “Family Joy on Mother’s Day” promotion: buy four tickets and receive one complimentary ticket, along with a complimentary electronic family photo taken on-site, creating a heartwarming memory for families.

Additionally, there will be a photo zone, commemorative gifts, and a lucky draw at the event to add surprises and emotions.

Furthermore, all proceeds from this concert will be donated to the Timely Rain Foundation to support the creation and cultural exchange of young musicians and artists worldwide. The foundation has also generously donated 100 tickets to invite seniors aged 65 and above from Taiwan to attend the concert for free, allowing more people to feel the warmth from their homeland.
