Former US Attorney General Bill Barr said that he believes the true threat to America comes from the far left, not from former President Trump. He stated that he will vote for the former boss he once criticized in the November election.
During an appearance on Fox News’ “Cavuto Live” program on Saturday, Barr was asked about the potential challenges a new Trump administration may face if he were to be reelected.
Barr told host Neil Cavuto, “Ultimately, you have to remember that I served in his administration. I have no quarrel with his policies. I think his policies were good policies.”
He added that his criticisms of Trump stem from his views on the former president’s actions post the 2020 election. However, he argued that Trump’s attempts to seize power are not the real threat facing the US; rather, it is the far left that poses the true threat to democracy.
“The threat our country faces comes from the far left and the movement towards a true socialist system,” emphasized Barr.
“In my view, they are a group of violent hooligans, that’s where the threat lies,” he added.
When discussing potential staffing choices Trump might make in the future, Barr said, “I think a key sign will be who he chooses as his vice president and who he picks out there. I hope he picks someone who is a firm conservative Republican, who if need be, can serve as President of the United States.”
This recent statement reaffirms Barr’s support for Trump as the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election. Last Wednesday, during an interview on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” he also stated that despite his differences with his former boss, he will vote for the “Republican candidate” in November.
The program’s host Bill Hemmer asked Barr at that time, “He is the presumptive nominee – we think he will be the nominee. Will you support him in 2024?”
Barr replied, “I have always said that if there are two bad choices, I feel a responsibility to pick the one I think would do the least harm to the country. In my view, I would cast my vote for this Republican candidate. I will support the Republican candidate.”
He further emphasized, “I think the real danger to the country – as I have said, the real danger to democracy – is the radical agenda of the extremists.”
