Bangkok’s High-rise Skywalk Collapses; Korean Man Jumps Over Broken Bridge to Find Wife and Daughter

Myanmar experienced a strong earthquake measuring 7.7 on March 28, with the neighboring Thai capital Bangkok also affected. A South Korean man in the area, in search of his wife and daughter, leaped from a damaged sky bridge several stories high into another building that was still shaking. This daring act was captured on camera and widely circulated online.

According to a report by the UK’s “Daily Mail,” during the earthquake, Kwon Young Jun, a 36-year-old South Korean from Seoul, was working out on the 52nd floor of a high-rise building, while his 35-year-old wife, Sukanya Yutuam, and their one-year-old daughter were in their residence on the 30th floor of another building connected by an aerial bridge, which was damaged due to the earthquake.

Risking his own safety to find his wife and daughter, Kwon Young Jun bravely leaped across the cracked sky bridge to reach the opposite building, where they had already been safely evacuated. He then walked down more than 40 floors from the high-rise and finally reunited with them on the ground outside the building. The breathtaking moment of him flying over the broken bridge was captured by people on the ground.

Young Jun said, “All I could think of was getting back to the room to save my wife and child. I realized it was an earthquake, the building was splitting, but when I saw the crack, I jumped.”

As a beauty influencer, Sukanya Yutuam said, “This was very dangerous. When I saw the video, I was shocked just like everyone else. Things happened so fast that day, and no one was really in their right mind. Instinct took over him, and he jumped over the building.”

Incredibly, Kwon Young Jun emerged nearly unscathed, with only minor scrapes on his arm.

He mentioned that the concrete bridge had not completely severed initially, and it was only after he leaped that he heard a loud bang. Without looking back, he just focused on his family and kept running forward.

Following the incident, the family temporarily moved to another area to stay with Sukanya Yutuam’s parents.

The developers of their apartment building stated that after inspection, the buildings remained safe. The structure of the sky bridge remains sturdy, designed to disconnect from the buildings, allowing them to sway freely during earthquakes.

Sukanya Yutuam mentioned that her husband always puts his family first no matter what, to the point that he forgot how dangerous it was to cross over to the other building. She added, “I didn’t choose the wrong person.”
