Baltimore Waterfront Area Experiences Diesel Leak Incident

On Wednesday (June 4), a hospital facility in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, experienced a 2000-gallon diesel leak, contaminating a popular tourist area along the city’s coastline. Local officials stated on Thursday that fortunately, the drinking water in the area was not affected.

Governor of Maryland, Wes Moore’s office, released a statement indicating that the leak originated from facilities near the Harbor East pier at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Initially, the leak was estimated to be only 100 gallons.

The statement added that the leak had been contained within the Harbor East pier area, which covers approximately 100×250 yards.

The governor’s office mentioned that the water in the affected area turned red due to dye in the diesel, and the U.S. Coast Guard is collaborating with contractors to carry out the cleanup operations.

Earlier on Wednesday, the governor posted on X platform, stating, “My team and I are currently at Fells Point, where an unidentified oil leak has occurred.” He later mentioned that Johns Hopkins Hospital was involved in the response efforts.

Fells Point is a historic waterfront community in the city.
