At least 8 dead and 19 missing in Sichuan’s Kangding after mountain flood and debris flow.

In the early morning of August 3, a sudden flash flood and mudflow occurred in Kangding, Sichuan, causing at least 8 deaths and 19 missing persons.

The flash flood and mudflow in Kangding City, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, caused houses in the Ridu Village of Guzan Town in Kangding City to be washed away. As of 2:30 am on August 4, the disaster had resulted in 6 deaths and 11 missing persons, according to the local disaster response command.

Furthermore, the mudflow also caused the collapse of a bridge between Tunnel 1 and Tunnel 2 on the Ya Kang Expressway from Kangding to Luding, with 4 vehicles and a total of 11 people confirmed to have fallen off the bridge. One person was rescued and hospitalized, 2 were found dead, and 8 went missing. In total, 8 deaths and 19 missing persons were reported in the two incidents.

Due to the consistent cover-up by the Chinese Communist Party, the actual number of deaths or missing persons may be higher than reported.

So far, there have been three cases of road collapses this year. Prior to this incident, on July 19, a partial collapse of the bridge on the Danning Expressway Shuiyang section in Zhashui County, Shaanxi Province, occurred. As of 6:00 pm on August 2, a total of 25 vehicles fell into the river, with 38 confirmed deaths and 24 missing persons.

On May 1, a road collapse incident also happened at the 11.9-kilometer point of the Meilong Expressway (from Meizhou to Longyan). By 2:00 pm on May 2, it resulted in 48 deaths and 30 injuries.

The quality of bridges has been questioned. Netizens commented: “Three collapses on highways this year, what’s going on?” “With these three incidents, we dare not drive fast on highways in the future.” “As time passes, all the previous shoddy projects will gradually reveal problems.”
