On the early morning of August 3rd, a sudden mudslide occurred on the Yacong Expressway in Sichuan, causing a tunnel bridge to collapse. Official reports indicated that 3 vehicles plunged off the road with a total of 6 people inside, of which 1 person was rescued and 5 individuals were reported missing.
A viral video online showed a significant collapse of the bridge between two tunnels, with at least 2 vehicles falling down and creating a scene of devastation at the site.
Due to the consistent history of concealing the truth by the Chinese Communist Party, the accuracy of the official data has been questioned.
According to the rescue command center for geological disasters in Kangding, Garze Prefecture, at around 3:30 am on the 3rd, the bridge between tunnels 1 and 2 on the section of the Yacong Expressway from Kangding to Luding collapsed due to a sudden mudslide caused by flash floods. As of 11 am on the 3rd, it was confirmed that a total of 6 people were in 3 vehicles that fell off the road towards Ya’an from Kangding, with 1 person rescued and 5 others missing.
Furthermore, the Traffic Police Department of Sichuan Province also issued a notice stating that around 3:43 am on the 3rd, a geological disaster occurred at the 120 km+200 m mark of the Luding to Kangding section of the G4218 Yaye Expressway, leading to the closure of the road in both directions. The G318 highway also experienced road closures as a result.
Currently, the Yacong Expressway and the Kangding section of National Highway 318 are closed in both directions, prohibiting any traffic passage.
Netizens have expressed their concerns, questioning the frequency of road collapses, the quality of highway constructions, and the need for improved detection equipment to prevent such incidents from recurring.
In another tragic incident, on July 19th, a partial collapse of the Daning section of the Danning Expressway in Shaanxi’s Zhashui County resulted in the confirmed fall of 25 vehicles into the river, with 38 fatalities and 24 individuals missing as of 6 p.m. on August 2nd. Suspicions have been raised by the public, attributing the accident to substandard construction practices. However, the authorities have yet to disclose the results of the accident investigation.
Earlier on May 1st, a road collapse occurred at the 11.9 km mark of the Meilong Expressway (heading from Meizhou to Longyan), leading to the tragic deaths of 48 individuals, with 3 more missing and 30 individuals injured by the time 2 p.m. on May 2nd.
