At least 18 people killed and injured in a bus crash outside Shenyang University

On the evening of June 17th, outside the south gate of Shenyang University in Liaoning Province, a bus ran a red light and crashed into multiple private cars and pedestrians, resulting in at least 18 casualties.

Local netizens shared videos showing a bus parked on the side of the road with its front damaged, several taxis and private cars severely deformed, and some vehicles overturned.

In a video posted by a local resident, it was evident that several people were lying in the middle of the road. The man in the video lamented, “This one is dead, that one is dead, there’s another one under the car.” Local netizens also commented on the scene, describing it as “extremely tragic.”

A circulated video from a dashcam captured the moment of the incident. Many vehicles were queued up for a left turn when a bus on the right suddenly ran a red light and collided directly with the turning traffic.

According to Xi’an News Network, a nearby resident exclaimed, “How many cars were involved in this? It was so loud even on the upper floors. A continuous series of crashes.”

As per Jimo News, a convenience store employee near the south gate of Shenyang University confirmed that a traffic accident did occur on the evening of June 17th. The employee couldn’t leave the store due to the scene being sealed off until around 10 p.m. when the site was finally reopened for them to go home.

On the evening of the 17th, Shenyang Municipal Public Security Bureau Traffic Management Detachment reported that at around 7:55 p.m. near 15 Liaojie Road, Dadong District, a bus collided with multiple motor vehicles, resulting in “18 injuries, including 2 fatalities.” The driver, Wang (male, 52 years old), was apprehended at the scene, with no suspicion of drunk driving or drug use. The cause of the incident was attributed to Wang’s “improper pedestrian avoidance operation.”

The official report triggered skepticism among netizens. Several locals expressed that the driver ran a red light at high speed, surpassing 60 km/h, and more than two people lost their lives. One netizen mentioned, “I have a video showing four university students and one riding a scooter instantly gone. These poor kids.” Another added, “They were doing road construction, and the driver still sped through the red light. This is in front of the university. What kind of behavior are we letting bus drivers get away with? Reckless driving has become the norm.” A call was made to expose the incident globally to prevent Shenyang authorities from concealing the truth.

Furthermore, a netizen revealed, “This is not the first serious accident involving route 126. On July 2, 18 years ago, there was a crash at Station 1 resulting in one death and nine injuries. It was also route 126…”

Data indicates that bus route 126 runs from Shangyuan Road to Wanghua South Street towards the Olympic Sports Center Bus Hub, passing through key locations such as Shenyang University, real estate buildings, Wulove Market, and Wulihe.
