“Around the World in 80 Days” actor suddenly quits showbiz at 53 and switches career to engineer

Taiwanese male star “Xiao Ying” Ying Weimin, 53, former lead singer of the clip electric band, gained popularity for his role in the movie “Cape No. 7.” Today (27th), he unexpectedly announced on Facebook that he will “log out” of his acting career due to personal planning.

Xiao Ying rose to fame for playing the character “Water Frog” in the movie “Cape No. 7”, but in recent years he has only had sporadic works. It turned out that he had disagreements with his agent, leading him to consider studying law. In February this year, he revealed on Facebook that he was considering becoming a lawyer during that time.

In a previous post, he expressed, “Two years ago, conflicts with my former agent caused a significant decrease in acting opportunities in recent years, making me feel blocked! The reason was not due to negative social image but due to insistence on basic rights and obligations, possibly resulting in an industry perception of ‘unfriendliness’.”

Xiao Ying gradually realized the legal issues related to rights and obligations in the entertainment industry, especially in contractual cooperation, which motivated him to pick up his books again and prepare to take the bar exam.

However, after several months, today Xiao Ying suddenly announced on Facebook that he will be “logging out” of the entertainment industry.

He explained his current thoughts on Facebook, stating that he originally aimed to pursue a legal career or a public position. However, upon evaluating that it might not be achievable in the short term, he said, “Even if achieved, a fourth or fifth-grade public position might allow me to focus on performing well in a private company for a few years and exceed its salary level, right? Age restrictions prevent me from constantly studying for 365 days.”

Xiao Ying also disclosed that he has found a job as an engineer and will be returning to a regular working life in the future, stating, “Maintaining a working status continuously is the most fulfilling process.”

He also told his fans, “In the future, fans can only reminisce about past works through audio and video recordings… Exiting the entertainment industry, let’s continue to strive in life!”
