APEC South Korea Summit: Representative Lin Ching-yi Attends as Taiwan Leader

In 2025, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting is set to take place in South Korea on October 31st. The spokesperson for the presidential office, Guo Yahui, announced that President Lai Ching-te has once again invited Lin Xinyi to represent the Republic of China at the APEC meeting, marking Lin Xinyi’s third representation of the president at APEC.

The 2025 APEC meeting in South Korea is scheduled from October 31st to November 1st. Guo Yahui, the spokesperson for the Republic of China’s presidential office, stated that President Lai carefully considered and decided to invite Lin Xinyi, a senior advisor to the government and the chairman of Taiwania Capital, to represent the country at the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

Guo Yahui highlighted that Lin Xinyi has previously represented as a leader delegate in 2005 and 2024 at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, showcasing a deep understanding and grasp of APEC operations and related issues. Therefore, he is considered the most suitable candidate to represent President Lai at this year’s APEC meeting.

This year, APEC hosted by South Korea is themed “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow,” focusing on three key areas: “Connectivity – enhancing connectivity through trade promotion, investment, and strengthening physical, institutional, and interpersonal exchanges,” “Innovation – promoting digital innovation through narrowing the gap and fostering cooperation in artificial intelligence,” and “Prosperity – achieving sustainable and inclusive growth and prosperity by addressing global challenges.”

According to Guo Yahui, the two main axes in the three key areas are “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) and “Addressing Population Challenges,” aligning well with President Lai’s efforts to transform Taiwan into an “AI Island,” advocating for a “Healthy Taiwan” vision, actively promoting AI chips, smart manufacturing, intelligent healthcare, and digital governance.

Guo Yahui emphasized that Lin Xinyi, with his extensive industry experience and involvement in formulating and implementing major national economic policies, possesses a profound understanding of the country’s industrial development and the global economic and trade situations. It is believed that he will be able to effectively share Taiwan’s governance vision and achievements at APEC, successfully fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted by the president.
