Anti-Squatting Team Cracks Down on Los Angeles Property Invaders

“Squatter Squad” is on a mission to combat illegal property invasions throughout Los Angeles. The team is dedicated to evicting unauthorized property invaders. Thomas Lando and Kimrey Kotchick, interviewed by FOX 11, shared their experience of being assigned to evict several illegal occupants in an apartment on Menlo Avenue in Los Angeles.

According to shocking data revealed by the Greater Los Angeles Apartment Association, properties in California and across the United States are being invaded by squatters. Squatters exploit fake leases to reside rent-free in these properties. Kotchick warned, “These individuals are actively learning on platforms like YouTube how to take control of someone else’s residence, just as we witnessed today.”

The “Squatter Squad” strongly advises property owners to take preventive measures. They recommend installing security cameras, displaying “No Trespassing” signs, maintaining good relationships with neighbors to be vigilant of squatters when owners are away. They also suggest property owners visit the local police station to fill out an “Authorization Form for Arrest of Unauthorized Occupants.”

Additionally, they recommend homeowners hire house sitters during extended vacations to ensure the security of their property. Squatting is prevalent in the United States, mainly because laws in several states stipulate that even without any lease agreement, individuals who reside in a vacant property for a certain period can claim rights and benefits as squatters.

In California, authorities are cautious about evicting squatters. Landlords resorting to legal means can be time-consuming and challenging. If squatters occupy a property for over 5 years, the property may even be awarded to the squatters.
