Analysis by Taiwan’s senior media personality Liao Xiaojun on the reasons for Trump’s victory.

On November 9th, Liao Xiaojun, a senior media figure and well-known anchor from Taiwan, visited the Taiwan Center in New York City to share her firsthand experience of reporting live on the U.S. presidential election in Washington D.C. She analyzed the factors behind Trump’s victory and discussed Taiwan’s key position in the complex international landscape. She emphasized that Taiwan’s security is not just a matter for itself but also crucial for the stability of the Asia-Pacific region.

During the gathering last Saturday, Liao Xiaojun was warmly welcomed by Taiwanese compatriots, creating a lively atmosphere where many gathered to take photos with her.

Liao Xiaojun attributed Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election to two main factors: first, Trump allowed the Democratic Party to return to its fundamental policies, showing voters that the current policies were not working; second, Trump demonstrated a strong and efficient leadership style, aligning with what the U.S. needs in the international arena. Such strong leadership is more necessary in the current turbulent global situation, providing the U.S. with an advantage in handling issues ranging from economic problems, currency inflation, to illegal immigration policies.

Regarding Taiwan’s frequent threats from the Chinese Communist Party, Liao Xiaojun emphasized that Taiwan’s security concerns not only affect itself but also the stability of the Asia-Pacific region. She stressed that “if Taiwan is in trouble, Japan will definitely be in trouble too.” Facing the current challenging environment, she called for Taiwan to unite more, enhance awareness to counteract CCP infiltration, and ensure Taiwan maintains democracy, freedom, and stability in the international community.

Liao Xiaojun also urged Taiwan’s ruling party to handle domestic dissent more delicately, work towards resolving identity divisions in society, and engage in communication and education efforts targeted at the younger generation. She mentioned that like American voters who often consider economic and livelihood issues when making decisions, Taiwan’s young generation is no exception. She emphasized the importance of staying vigilant against CCP’s psychological warfare and effectively addressing these potential threats, as Taiwan faces challenges it cannot ignore.

Speaking about Taiwan’s internal challenges, Liao Xiaojun believed that half of Taiwan’s population has not fully recognized the nature and influence of the Chinese Communist Party. She pointed out that this situation allows CCP’s “psychological warfare” to influence the Taiwanese people.

Liao Xiaojun specifically mentioned the understanding of the Chinese Communist Party by Yú Màochūn, former Chief China policy advisor at the U.S. Department of State, emphasizing his significant role in the policy shift towards China during Trump’s administration. Through the assistance of individuals like Yú Màochūn, the U.S. clearly defined China (the CCP) as a competitor, a position that serves as a reminder to Taiwan, urging it to stand firm in the face of threats from China (the CCP).

Lastly, Liao Xiaojun shared her team’s successful experience in using AI technology for election data analysis during the 2022 Taiwan election. By selecting representative “Octopus Villages,” her team utilized AI to accurately predict election data in a short period, with an error rate of only 0.1%.
