On October 24, 2025, according to Epoch Times, Alaska Airlines announced on Thursday evening, local time, that all flights were temporarily suspended due to an information technology (IT) system failure, causing disruptions to flights across the United States. The company stated that the technical team was working diligently to repair the issue and apologized to passengers for the inconvenience.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States issued a notice that Alaska Airlines had requested a halt to takeoffs and landings at airports nationwide, with the flight suspension lasting approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes until midnight Greenwich Mean Time on the 24th. This measure also applied to its subsidiary, Horizon Air.
Alaska Airlines released a statement on social media, stating, “We are currently experiencing an IT system interruption, and have implemented temporary comprehensive flight suspensions. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused. Passengers scheduled for flights tonight are advised to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.”
Numerous passengers took to social media platforms to complain about being unable to book tickets or check flight information using the official website or app. The company acknowledged system errors in its responses to users and stated that the IT team was actively working on resolving the issues to restore normal operations as soon as possible.
This is the second time this year that Alaska Airlines has experienced a complete flight suspension due to technical issues. In July, the company faced a similar situation when a critical hardware failure in its data center resulted in a nationwide flight suspension for about three hours, leading to the cancellation of over 200 flights and affecting approximately 15,000 passengers.
