After 17 years, San Francisco revolving restaurant reopens.

After nearly 20 years, the revolving restaurant at the Hyatt Regency on the waterfront in San Francisco has reopened its doors to the public. The restaurant, known for its slow-moving floor and panoramic views stretching from the financial district to Alcatraz Island, first opened in 1973 but closed its doors in 2007, ceasing the rotation mechanism of the floor.

Dennis Alcaire, an engineer who has been with the Hyatt Regency for 47 years, witnessed the restaurant come to a stop 17 years ago. Last year, he led a team to bring the iconic revolving restaurant back to life through months of renovation and repair work.

“The amount of work was substantial, but we got it done,” Alcaire told ABC7 News.

As of now, the restaurant is not yet open to the public and there are no specific details on when it will reopen its doors to offer its renowned 360-degree views to visitors. Currently, the restaurant is only available for guests of the Hyatt Regency hotel. As part of the hotel’s 51st-anniversary celebrations, the revolving restaurant is set to have its grand reopening on May 1st.

Karla Pecorelli, the General Manager at Hyatt Regency, expressed her excitement about the buzz surrounding the hotel and the restaurant reopening, stating, “The energy around the hotel today is truly thrilling. People have really been wanting to see it again and to see them so excited today, we are all really enthusiastic.”

With its long-awaited reopening, the Hyatt Regency’s revolving restaurant is poised to once again become a must-visit destination for tourists and locals alike, offering unparalleled views of San Francisco’s iconic skyline and landmarks.
