Recently, a track incident occurred at the Tiandongbei Station in Guangxi, China, where a passenger jumped onto the tracks (referring to the numbered tracks within a railway station used to determine the precise location for train stops) and collided with a high-speed train that was decelerating to a stop. The passenger was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
On the evening of November 24th, the China Railway Nanning Bureau Baise Depot issued a notice on Weibo stating that on the afternoon of November 23rd at 4:13 pm, an adult passenger suddenly jumped onto the tracks at platform 2 of the Tiandongbei Station. At that time, the D3844 train was decelerating to stop, and despite immediate emergency braking measures being taken, a collision occurred with the passenger due to the close proximity.
After the accident occurred, the injured individual was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Some netizens commented on social media, with one stating, “I was on that train, and we were delayed for over an hour.”
The incident has sparked attention online, with netizens expressing sentiments such as, “Life is more important than anything, why resort to such extreme measures,” and “There will be more incidents like this in the future,” and “It’s a situation where neither life nor death seems tenable.”
In recent years, track-jumping incidents have been occurring frequently.
According to previous reports, on April 16 of this year, a 32-year-old man suddenly jumped onto the tracks at the Humen Station and collided with an oncoming high-speed train, resulting in his death. On July 5, a track-jumping incident also took place at the Hangzhou East Station involving an adult individual, who was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
On October 29, 2023, a passenger at the Yuyao North Station in Ningbo, Zhejiang unexpectedly jumped off the platform while waiting for a train and was hit by an incoming high-speed train, with their condition remaining uncertain. Similarly, on July 18 of the same year, a man at the Wenling City High-speed Rail Station in Taizhou, Zhejiang suddenly leaped in front of an approaching train and was crushed to death.
On September 4, 2023, a man at the Tengzhou East Station in Shandong jumped onto the tracks to commit suicide as the train was arriving, and despite attempts to brake in time, the man was dragged under the train and passed away.
