A family in the United States that has had only sons for 108 years is set to welcome its first baby girl.

For the past 108 years, there has been a “yang sheng yin cai” family in Texas, USA, that has only had male offspring, making them eagerly await the arrival of a baby girl. Fortunately, their wish has been granted as the family is about to welcome a baby girl for the first time in a century.

According to ABC News, at a gender reveal party on September 7th, Michael Sherman Jr., a 34-year-old firefighter from Montgomery County, Texas, and his 32-year-old wife Joacquia were celebrated by several generations of their family. Joacquia is expected to give birth to their second child in March next year, making her the first baby girl in the family in 108 years.

Joacquia expressed, “We thought we couldn’t have a girl, I knew if we had another child, it would be a boy, so it was a huge surprise for me to be carrying a girl.”

Michael Sherman Jr. told KTRK News, “I feel honored, we are finally the couple to bring a baby girl into this world in our family after over a hundred years. It’s really amazing.”

Michael Sherman Sr., father of Michael Sherman Jr., remarked, “This is truly a remarkable thing. I have three sons, my dad had two sons, his brother also had two sons. So, we’ve only had boys in our family, boys, boys, boys.”

The Sherman family mentioned that the last baby girl born into the family was in 1917, who was Michael Sherman Jr.’s great-aunt.

Lydia Robertson, Michael Sherman Jr.’s grandmother, shared, “His great-aunt was a trailblazer in Atlanta. Yes, she was involved in the civil rights movement… she knew many civil rights leaders and made an impact in Atlanta.”

The Shermans are eagerly looking forward to witnessing how this new member of the family will navigate through life.

Robertson added, “I love her. Whatever path she chooses, we will be there for her… we will always support her, I pray she makes the right life decisions and walks the right path.”

Chantene Newman, Michael Sherman Sr.’s wife, stated, “She will know that she has made history for the Sherman family.”

The family is now planning to check if their streak of having only male children qualifies for a Guinness World Record.

However, the Sherman family might not break the Guinness World Record, as a couple from Michigan welcomed the first baby girl in the man’s family in 138 years, two years ago.

Previously reported by Dajiyuan, the family of analyst Andrew Clark from Michigan hadn’t had a girl since 1885. His wife gave birth to their first baby girl in the family in 138 years in 2023, bringing immense joy to the couple and generations of their family.
