A car suddenly caught fire on the Shanghai North-South Elevated Highway with the whole front end burning.

Today, in the afternoon of October 20th, a sedan caught fire on the Shanghai North-South Elevated Road, with the entire front of the car engulfed in flames, causing a massive traffic jam on the road.

According to the information released by “Traveling in Shanghai” on October 20th at 13:37, a sedan caught fire on the west side of the Shanghai North-South Elevated Road, from the Zhonghuan Republic Interchange to Guangzhong Road, occupying two lanes and leading to slow traffic flow behind it.

At 14:02, the sedan fire incident on the west side of the Shanghai North-South Elevated Road from Zhonghuan Republic Interchange to Guangzhong Road was still being dealt with, with the open flames extinguished, causing a traffic jam extending to Humar Road. By 14:40, the incident was resolved, and traffic behind it gradually began to return to normal.

Pictures circulated online show the burning vehicle with the entire front engulfed in flames, creating a scene of raging fire at the site.

Some netizens reported, “The Pengpu Elevated Road is closed,” and “We are stuck behind it.”

The Shanghai North-South Elevated Road is a north-south elevated expressway in Shanghai, starting from 400 meters north of Luheng Road in the south to S20 (formerly A20) Highway in the north, with a total length of approximately 30.2 kilometers, passing through Baoshan District, Jing’an District, Huangpu District, Pudong New Area, and Minhang District. The southern extension section starts at the intersection of Longyao Road Tunnel and Jiyang Road in Pudong New Area, and ends at the intersection of Puxing Road and Luheng Road in Minhang District to the south, with an extension length of about 8.1 kilometers.
