Multiple Days of MBTA Subway and Commuter Rail Suspensions in June

Due to the ongoing repairs of the train system by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), services at multiple stations for the Orange Line subway, Red Line subway, and commuter trains will be temporarily suspended in June.

On May 28 to June 6, subway services between Wellington and Back Bay will be fully suspended throughout the day, and replaced with shuttle buses. During this time, the Green Line subway in that area will increase its frequency to facilitate passenger transfers.

From the evening of June 7 after 8:45 PM to June 9 (weekend), subway service between North Station and Oak Grove will be suspended and replaced by shuttle buses.

From June 22 to 30, subway service between Wellington and North Station will be fully suspended throughout the day, with shuttle buses in place. During this period, Wellington and North Station will waive fares, allowing passengers to ride the subway in the opposite direction for free.

On June 1 and 2, as well as the weekends of June 29 and 30, subway services between Alewife and Harvard will be fully suspended, replaced by shuttle buses. Additionally, the 77 bus will offer free rides, and commuter trains between Porter and North Station will also be free of charge.

On June 8 and 9, as well as the weekends of June 15 and 16, subway services between Broadway and Braintree will be fully suspended, replaced by shuttle buses. It’s important to note that the Red Line Ashmont Branch will not be affected and will operate as usual.

After 8:45 PM on June 28, and the weekends of June 29 and 30, the northbound/outbound side of Kendall/MIT Station will be closed, with trains not stopping at that station. Passengers are advised to walk to Central Station to catch the subway, or take a southbound train to Charles/MGH Station and transfer to a northbound train.

On June 8 and 9, as well as the weekends of June 15 and 16, commuter trains on the Kingston, Middleborough, and Greenbush lines between South Station and Braintree will be suspended, replaced by shuttle buses and non-stop express commuter buses. Normal fares will resume after Braintree.

On June 1 and 2, June 8 and 9, as well as June 28 to July 1, commuter trains on the Needham line between Needham Heights and South Station will be fully suspended. Shuttle buses will transport passengers between Needham Heights and Newton Highlands, as well as Needham Heights and Forest Hills. Passengers are advised to take the shuttle bus and transfer to the Green or Orange Line subways. Additionally, buses 35, 36, 37, and 59 will be free to ride.

On the weekends of June 22 and 23, commuter trains on the Kingston line between Kingston and Halifax will be fully suspended and replaced by shuttle buses.

Starting from May 20 and continuing until the end of the summer, inbound Haverhill line commuter trains during daytime hours will operate as express trains from Ballardvale directly to North Station without intermediate stops. Passengers needing to reach intermediary stops can opt to transfer to bus 137.
