On Wednesday, October 15th, Apple Inc. unveiled its new lineup of MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro, all equipped with the upgraded M5 chip, providing faster processing speeds compared to their predecessors.
Apple announced that the appearance of these three devices remains identical to the current versions, but the processors have been upgraded to the company’s first M5 chip, boasting improvements in computing speed, graphics processing, and artificial intelligence tasks.
The introductory prices for each product remain unchanged. The new MacBook Pro starts at $1,599 and will be available for purchase on October 22nd. The 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $999, while the latest Apple Vision Pro, featuring a double-ring braided headband with cushion pads, is priced at $3,499.
Equipped with the Apple M5 chip, the company stated that the peak computing performance of this chip is four times that of the previous M4 generation. The iPad Pro also comes with Apple’s proprietary N1 wireless chip and C1X modem, while the Vision Pro introduces a new headband design.
These new devices are already open for pre-orders in most markets and are part of Apple’s fall product lineup. Earlier this week, Apple announced that the iPhone Air, after a period of delay, will also be launched in the Chinese market on the same day.
The new iPad Pro with the M5 processor delivers the most advanced experience to date, integrating powerful performance and AI capabilities into a super portable design. Like its predecessors, the M5 iPad Pro features a slim design and comes with a multi-layer “Tandem” OLED display, enhancing brightness and energy efficiency. The starting price for the 13-inch model remains at $1,299.
Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies, Johny Srouji, stated in a press release, “The M5 will significantly enhance AI workloads.”
Driven by the holiday and Christmas shopping seasons, including the December quarter, which is typically Apple’s highest revenue quarter, the company tends to update its popular products in the fall. This year, it also marks the first full quarter of iPhone 17 sales.
While the iPad and MacBook may not hold the same significance for Apple as the iPhone, they still represent a significant portion of the company’s business.
Apple reported that iPad sales in the second quarter reached $6.58 billion, an 8% decrease year-on-year.
As usual, the 14-inch MacBook Pro comes in silver and black colors, with the option to choose an anti-glare display. The Mac series has been a highlight in Apple’s recent financial quarters, and the company aims to maintain this momentum. In the second quarter, Mac series sales amounted to $8.05 billion, comfortably surpassing Wall Street’s expected $7.3 billion.
Although specific sales figures for the Vision Pro headphones have not been disclosed by Apple, they are included in the company’s wearable devices or other products sales category alongside the Apple Watch and AirPods. Analysts believe that the revenue from Vision Pro is negligible.
The total revenue from MacBook, iPad, and Vision Pro is significantly lower than iPhone revenue, which accounted for over 47% of Apple’s second-quarter revenue, slightly below $450 billion.
Wall Street analysts often focus more on iPhone sales volume and growth.
