The Gold Mountain Bay Area Overseas Chinese Education Center and TCML Little Genius Education Academy held the 5th event of “TCML Taiwan Culture Tour and Culture Promotion” at the center on the afternoon of October 5 (last Sunday), introducing traditional Mid-Autumn Festival culture in Taiwan to approximately 140 enthusiastic students, teachers, and families.
The theme of the event was “Celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival with Warmth and Togetherness,” where teachers introduced the origins and legends of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Students performed poetry recitation of “Quiet Night Thoughts” and sang Chinese songs like “Shui Diao Ge Tou,” accompanied by musical instruments.
There were also performances of classical dance and folk dance on-site. The venue featured activities such as “Mid-Autumn Handicrafts,” “Tea Tasting,” “Balloon Art,” “Hanfu Experience,” “Face Painting,” “Pomelo Tasting,” “Mooncake Making,” and a photo spot, allowing students to immerse themselves in the warmth and fun of Taiwanese Mid-Autumn culture through hands-on activities and interactions.
Director Zhuang Yashu expressed her delight in having the Little Saplings and Little Geniuses students and teachers organize the event at the Overseas Chinese Education Center, welcoming the Mid-Autumn Festival together with the community. She mentioned that this event combined traditional food and Mid-Autumn Festival customs, allowing mainstream community students to personally experience Taiwan’s diverse culture and also inviting more people to participate in the Chinese language learning center courses.
Chairperson of TCML Education Academy, Lai Shuna, told Taipei Times that the Mid-Autumn Festival is an important annual event for Chinese language learning centers, showcasing the Chinese language learning achievements of adult students, especially non-Chinese students. The school arranged special activities such as making green bean cakes, tea tasting, pomelo color art, and mooncake tasting to enable everyone to experience the charm of Chinese culture in a joyful atmosphere.
Several TCML students shared their learning experiences on-site. Student Xue Biqin (Amy) said she has been learning Chinese for over three years and particularly enjoys when the teacher leads everyone in making Taiwanese cuisine in class. She mentioned that having visited Taiwan, she misses the night market food the most.
Young student Li Kaiwen (Kevin Li) mentioned that he had given up learning Chinese when he was young but resumed learning as an adult. He loves Taiwan and hopes to work there in the future, thus continuing to pay attention to Taiwanese culture.
Student Zhong Siwen (Stephen Moseson) mentioned that he joined the Chinese class because his daughter attends TCML and has been learning for four to five years. As his wife is Taiwanese, he hopes to communicate with his family in Chinese.
