Unforgettable care from girlfriend battling cancer: Lai Mingwei reserves seat for her at concert

Taiwanese singer Yuming, who rose to fame as the champion of the talent show “Starlight Class,” is celebrating his 16th year in the industry by embarking on his first solo concert as part of the “Legacy Presents: Strong and Gentle” series. During a press conference today, the single for four years revealed that he had a girlfriend outside the entertainment circle for 9 years, who unfortunately passed away from cancer four years ago. Yuming shared, “She always had my best interests at heart until the end, so I will reserve a special place for her at this concert.”

Yuming, known for his talent show victory and his album “Inner Thoughts” which earned him a nomination for Best Taiwanese Male Vocalist at the Golden Melody Awards, has not only been a resident singer at “EZ5” PUB but also served as a radio DJ and a university lecturer.

In recent years, he has taken on a role as the head of a temple inherited from his family, and his composition “Eternal Incense” recently surpassed one million views online. Now, he is gearing up to perform as a singer.

Despite still being single, Yuming revealed that his girlfriend of nine years passed away on his birthday, leaving him with no opportunity to bid her farewell. He admitted that he hasn’t celebrated his birthday in the past 4 years and has focused on his work and temple responsibilities.

Yuming also shared that despite not consuming alcohol, he has been diagnosed with gout and requires regular medical check-ups, uric acid medication, and monitoring every three months. He reflected on how his girlfriend used to remind him to take care of his health, avoided overconsumption of beans and meat, and supported him unconditionally. Her absence has left him deeply saddened.

Currently, he is fully dedicated to preparing for his upcoming concert, expressing his hope that fans will attend the show before he turns 40. He has invited artist friends, including folk singer Zheng Yi, to support him at the concert in Taipei.

The concert’s title, “Singing in the Original Key,” reflects Yuming’s desire to showcase his unwavering commitment to his music and maintain the initial passion he had. He is confident that all songs performed will stay true to their original key, promising an authentic musical experience for his dedicated fans.
