Renowned participant of the Chinese dance show “This! Is Street Dance” season five, Jie Xiaodong, passed away on September 29 at the young age of 30, leaving a shockwave among a large number of fans and industry insiders.
According to a report by Red Star News, a publication under the Chengdu Business Daily, Jie Xiaodong was a choreographer at the HelloDance studio in Chengdu. An employee of the dance studio mentioned, “The information we received is that he has left us.” Subsequent sources confirmed that Jie Xiaodong passed away in the early hours of September 29 in Chengdu after rescue efforts proved futile.
The report mentioned that on May 14 last year, Jie Xiaodong suffered a severe head injury from a fall while working abroad, leading to cardiac arrest and a state of deep coma in the ICU. During this time, as his family couldn’t afford the high medical expenses, online fundraising efforts were made. Sadly, over a year later, news of his passing surfaced.
Information indicates that on the stage of “This! Is Street Dance” season five, Jie Xiaodong from the HelloDance dance studio in Chengdu left a lasting impression. As a creator who served both as a dancer and a choreographer, he brought creativity to the show. Known for his handsome appearance, he was frequently invited to participate in magazine shoots.
Jie Xiaodong’s final video posted on social media remains dated May 10, 2024, just four days before the accident. In that video, he and his teammates were dancing and basking in the praise of their fans. It’s tragic to think that a few days later, he got injured and, after 16 months of battling his condition, succumbed to it, evoking a sense of loss among many netizens who lamented, “He was too young, what a pity.”
