The Northern California Chinese School Association will jointly organize the “2025 Bay Area Chinese Language Proficiency Test” with the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco on November 9, 2025, marking the tenth year of the event. The test aims to help schools evaluate students’ Chinese language learning effectiveness and serves as an important basis for class placement and school transfers.
In addition to the existing “Chinese Language Proficiency Test” and “Children’s Chinese Language Proficiency Test,” a new “Preparatory Level Test” has been added this year to assist foreign learners of Chinese in assessing their own proficiency levels and igniting their passion for learning.
The test results will be issued with a “Pass Certificate” by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (only a score report will be provided for the preparatory level), and a score report will be issued by the National Chinese Language Test Promotion Committee. The certificate not only helps students and schools with class placement but also serves as:
1. Basis for applying for “Taiwan Scholarships” and “Ministry of Education Chinese Language Scholarships”;
2. Standard for exempting the Chinese language subject for overseas joint recruitment exams;
3. Reference for the Chinese language proficiency of foreign students admitted by Taiwanese universities;
4. Proof of Chinese language proficiency when job hunting.
The Children’s Chinese Language Proficiency Test includes “Listening” and “Reading” sections, divided into three levels – “Sprout Level” (about 400 vocabulary items), “Growth Level” (about 700 vocabulary items), and “Vigor Level” (about 1,100 vocabulary items), with each level further divided into two sub-levels, totaling six levels.
The Chinese Language Proficiency Test includes “Listening” and “Reading” sections and is divided into eight levels based on language proficiency – “Preparatory Level,” “Basic Entry Level,” “Advanced Advanced Level,” and “Fluent Proficient Level,” with each level further subdivided into two levels, totaling eight levels.
The test is designed and conducted by a professional team following standardized procedures, covering the establishment of competency indicators, test preparation, pre-testing, correction, testing, grading, and result interpretation, with strict regulations and international recognition.
