Recently, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council Chairperson Chiu Chui-cheng met with a delegation from the “Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China” (IPAC) to exchange views on international situations, regional security challenges, and the complex pressures from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) towards Taiwan. He expressed gratitude to the IPAC members for their steadfast support for Taiwan in the international community.
The delegation leader, Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP from the UK, noted that IPAC now spans 43 countries globally, with members closely monitoring the CCP’s expansionist actions on the international stage. Former Polish Foreign Minister Anna Fotyga mentioned the potential for the CCP’s AI technology development to become a new form of information warfare.
Swedish parliamentarian Magnus Berntsson stated that IPAC is also aware of the CCP’s attempt to reinterpret the intentions of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and understands the serious impact this could have on Taiwan. Therefore, IPAC actively advocates for Taiwan internationally to clarify its position.
Luke de Pulford, the founder and executive director of IPAC, emphasized the importance of maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.
Chairperson Chiu emphasized that Taiwan is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, willing to engage in meaningful dialogue and communication with mainland China based on principles of equality and dignity. Faced with ongoing complex and extreme pressures from the CCP towards Taiwan, the government will continue to defend national sovereignty with the “Four Upholds” and implement President Tsai’s “Four Pillars of Action for Peace.” Taiwan will uphold its democratic values and freedoms while strengthening international cooperation and solidifying the support from friendly nations.
