On August 24, 2025, the World Chinese Hung Mun and the China Democratic Education Foundation co-organized the “80th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture of the Victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan” at the National Father of the Nation Memorial Hall in San Francisco. Renowned historian Professor Xin Haonian delivered the keynote speech at the event.
The President of the World Chinese Hung Mun, Zhao Bingxian, delivered the opening speech at the commemorative event. He emphasized that behind the victory of the war of resistance 80 years ago were the tragic sacrifices of the Nationalist Army and millions of people. He said, “The victory of the resistance was only achieved through the sacrifices of 271 Nationalist generals, over 3.2 million soldiers, and countless compatriots. Today, we are here not only to commemorate but also to face the truth and let future generations understand who the backbone of the war of resistance truly was.”
During his two and a half-hour lecture, Professor Xin Haonian conducted a detailed analysis of a large number of declassified files from Russia, America, and Japan. He particularly cited the memoirs of CCP underground party member Zhang Kexia, pointing out that the first shot of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident in 1937 was not fired by the Japanese but by CCP underground party member Zhang Kexia under the orders of Liu Shaoqi. He emphasized, “The first shot at the Marco Polo Bridge triggered a full-scale resistance. Mao Zedong at the time gleefully said, ‘Chiang Kai-shek’s troubles can now only be dealt with by the Japanese!’ He bluntly stated, ‘The one who instigated Japan’s full-scale invasion, if an individual, is a traitor; if a political party or group, it is a traitorous regime. The Yan’an Communist government is a traitorous regime!'”
Professor Xin also quoted from Mao Zedong’s selected works and documents from the 1937 CCP Luochuan Conference, revealing the three statements of the CCP’s “total strategy” for resistance: “Encourage the fighting between the Japanese and Chiang, expand guerrilla warfare, and don’t be afraid to be a national traitor.” He said that the CCP, under the guise of anti-Japanese resistance, was actually aiming to grow its own power and seize control of the country.
“In 1938, when Wuhan fell, the Chinese people were extremely grieving, but Mao Zedong said, ‘Chiang Kai-shek is ultimately our enemy,’ and ‘Don’t become patriotic heroes,'” Professor Xin said, revealing that these historical records exposed the CCP’s true intentions: using the anti-Japanese efforts to build themselves up for future power grabs.
He also pointed out that after the signing of the 1941 Soviet-Japanese Non-Aggression Treaty, the CCP began large-scale attacks on the Nationalist Army. According to the CCP’s own numbers, the New Fourth Army killed or wounded 143,000 Nationalist soldiers during the eight-year war of resistance.
Professor Xin Haonian told the attendees during his speech that during the resistance, there were instances of the CCP taking territories from the Japanese but unreasonably handing them back, along with other irrational actions. He also mentioned how high-ranking CCP officials sent major spy Pan Hannaian to secretly negotiate with the Wang Jingwei regime and the Japanese, signing non-aggression agreements in exchange for the Japanese allowing the CCP to grow. “Isn’t this blatant collaborationist behavior?”
As a historian, he admitted that there were scattered instances of CCP resistance in the early stages, such as the Battle of Yangmingbao and the Hundred Regiments Offensive, but those achievements were vastly exaggerated. He stated that according to records from the Yasukuni Shrine in Japan, the CCP only killed 850 Japanese soldiers throughout the entire war of resistance, a few hundred times fewer than the CCP’s official claims of tens of thousands.
He believed that the CCP’s so-called “myths of resistance” were largely exaggerated propaganda aimed at deceiving the nation and future generations.
The President of the China Democratic Education Foundation, Feng Congde, pointed out in his speech that the CCP continues to tamper with history. He said, “For example, on September 3, the CCP plans to hold a massive military parade to commemorate the ‘Victory Day of the War of Resistance Against Japan.’ But do they have the qualifications? Where were their battlefields? Historical records show that Mao Zedong even received monthly funding from the Japanese through Pan Hannaian. This evidence proves that the CCP is a sell-out government.”
This commemorative event attracted nearly a hundred members of the local Chinese community. Several scholars and democracy activists expressed after the meeting that only by facing the truth can history be restored and the CCP’s manipulation of national memory be prevented.
