Chinese Male Singer Park Xiang, who participated in the music talent show “The Voice of China” in 2016 and joined Jay Chou’s team, passed away suddenly in the early hours of August 8th due to acute myocardial infarction, according to reports from several friends. On August 11th, it was confirmed that Park Xiang’s funeral had taken place on the 10th in his hometown in Xinjiang.
Born in 1990 in Tacheng, Xinjiang, Park Xiang started his career in the music industry in 2012 as the lead singer and guitarist of a band. In 2016, he gained recognition for his heartfelt performance of the song “Leaving Sadness to Myself” on “The Voice of China,” which impressed the judges and audience members. His mentor, Wang Feng, praised his performance as “emitting strength from softness, particularly comforting.”
A longtime fan of Jay Chou, Park Xiang joined Jay Chou’s team on the show and made it to the top five. That same year, he also appeared as a guest performer at Jay Chou’s concert. In recent years, Park Xiang remained active in the music scene, frequently performing at various pubs in Xinjiang.
Following the tragic news of Park Xiang’s passing, a close friend described him to a news outlet as a cheerful individual and a true “musical genius.” The friend expressed deep shock and sorrow over his sudden demise. Another friend revealed that they had recently been in contact with Park Xiang just a week prior, making his unexpected death even more devastating. They made a special trip to attend Park Xiang’s funeral to bid a final farewell to their friend.
It is noteworthy that several former contestants of “The Voice of China” have passed away due to various health issues.
Female singer Wang Yunyi, who was a participant in the first season of the show, succumbed to complications from diabetes caused by pancreatic disease and passed away at home in June 2024 at the age of 38. Wang Yunyi impressed the judges with her rendition of “Forgotten Time” and chose to join Han Geng’s team, advancing to the top 8.
In June 2023, male singer Zhang Hengyuan passed away at the age of 37 due to malignant melanoma. Zhang Hengyuan was diagnosed with the aggressive cancer a few years prior, with his condition worsening suddenly in 2023. He gained recognition on the show with his performance of “Can’t Escape” during the blind audition, ultimately finishing as the national runner-up.
Yao Beina, a contestant from the second season of “The Voice of China” in Na Ying’s team, achieved the position of the runner-up. Diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 30, Yao Beina underwent a mastectomy and endured seven rounds of chemotherapy. Despite her battle with cancer, she recorded the album “Beauty Trap” over six months and made a triumphant return to the stage. Yao Beina sadly passed away in January 2015 at the age of 34 due to breast cancer.
