In a recent case that has sparked public concern, a 19-year-old girl from Chongren County, Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, was deceived into donating plasma during her summer break, leading to physical weakness and exhaustion. It was later discovered by the girl’s parents that she had been lured to “donate plasma” without their knowledge.
The girl, known as Linlin (pseudonym), wanted to earn some extra money for her family by taking on a summer job during her break. Through a friend’s introduction, she found a job distributing flyers, thinking it was her first work experience. However, upon returning home, she felt extremely weak and lethargic, prompting her mother to inquire further. It was then that Linlin reluctantly confessed that she had been deceived.
What she thought was a job distributing flyers turned out to be a situation where she was treated as a “living blood bag.” Upon arriving at the designated location, she realized it was a plasma collection center. Inside, staff immediately began to brainwash her, claiming that donating blood was good for the body, promoting metabolism, and enhancing immunity. Surrounded by a group of people and trusting her classmates, she unknowingly had 580 milliliters of plasma drawn. After the donation, she received 300 yuan and an honor certificate.
Linlin’s mother quickly gathered evidence and reported the incident to the authorities.
A promotional flyer in the video indicated that the Chongren Plasma Station was recruiting participants for their “2025 Love Assistance Support Service” for summer social practice from June 10 to August 20 this year. The recruitment targeted potential university students, current university students, and technical school students (aged 18 and above), emphasizing the willingness to donate plasma, good physical and mental health, among other requirements.
Investigations revealed that the incident was related to the plasma collection site operated by Boya Biotech Company.
According to a report by Southern Metropolis Daily, inquiries were made to Boya Biotech personnel for verification. They explained that the plasma collection stations under them indeed recruit summer workers during the summer break for blood collection activities as part of their regular operations. They stressed that plasma donation was voluntary, and they provide relevant documents and processes for confirmation before collection.
“We arrange physical examinations before plasma collection, and afterward, we provide some compensation as required.” Regarding the claim of drawing 580 milliliters of plasma, they clarified that what they collect is “source plasma,” not whole blood. They stated that the perceived quantity was a misunderstanding.
Public information indicated that the plasma station involved was the Chongren Exclusive Plasma Station, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Huarong Boya Biopharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. located in Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, primarily engaged in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
In response to queries, personnel from Huarong Boya Biopharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd., the parent company of the plasma station explained, “The procedures for plasma collection at the exclusive station are legal and compliant. We await the investigation results from the relevant authorities.”
Legal experts have pointed out several flaws and violations in this case from various perspectives.
According to regulations, donors must be healthy citizens aged 18 to 55 and follow the voluntary, unpaid principle in donating blood. Additionally, participants must be informed of potential risks before donation and sign a written consent form.
However, based on the facts provided by Linlin’s mother, intermediaries used enticing phrases like “part-time” and “quick money” to deceive the naive girl into donating plasma.
Further investigation uncovered that Linlin was not the only victim. Following the incident, netizens shared similar experiences, revealing comparable situations in their areas with recruitment posts on job platforms offering 400 yuan to donors in the end.
Moreover, a former blood donor mentioned that they had given blood several times but stopped after unknowingly having 400 milliliters of plasma withdrawn one time, feeling unwell afterward.
On June 13, Chongren County in Fuzhou, Jiangxi announced the establishment of a joint investigation team comprising representatives from the County Health Commission and County Public Security Bureau to look into the matter.
