Hubei Provincial Department of Natural Resources Director Wu Zuyun is under investigation. Wu Zuyun previously served as the Secretary of the Qianjiang Municipal Committee, making him the fourth Secretary of the Qianjiang Municipal Committee to fall from grace.
The Hubei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced on June 11th that Wu Zuyun, the Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Department of Natural Resources of Hubei Province, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Hubei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision.
Public records show that Wu Zuyun was born in January 1967 in Xiantao, Hubei Province, and began working in August 1988. Wu Zuyun previously held positions such as District Head and District Secretary of Jingzhou City’s Jingzhou District, as well as District Head and District Secretary of Huangpi District in Wuhan City.
In November 2018, Wu Zuyun was appointed as the Secretary of the Qianjiang Municipal Committee.
In 2021, Wu Zuyun became the Director of the Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial Rural Revitalization Bureau. In 2023, he was appointed as the Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Hubei Provincial Department of Natural Resources, as well as the Provincial Chief Inspector of Natural Resources, until being investigated this time.
It is worth noting that Qianjiang has seen four successive Secretaries of the Municipal Committee being investigated, including Sheng Wenjun, Zhang Guihua, and Zhu Hanqiao.
On August 30, 2024, the Hubei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced that Qianjiang Municipal Committee Secretary Sheng Wenjun voluntarily surrendered and underwent inspection and investigation. On January 27 of this year, Sheng Wenjun was investigated and removed from office, and was transferred to judicial authorities. Sheng Wenjun served as the Deputy Secretary and Acting Mayor of the Qianjiang Municipal Committee in July 2021, and became the Mayor the following month; he was appointed as the Secretary of the Qianjiang Municipal Committee in July 2023.
In December 2024, the Hubei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced that Zhang Guihua, the former Deputy Director of the Hubei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and a Level One Inspector (now retired), is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Hubei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision. Zhang Guihua served as the Mayor of Qianjiang starting in 2009 and as the Secretary of the Qianjiang Municipal Committee starting in 2013.
On June 3, 2024, the Hubei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision announced that Zhu Hanqiao, the Director of the Hubei Provincial People’s Congress Ethnic and Religious Overseas Chinese Committee, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the Hubei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision. He was investigated and removed from office in December and transferred to judicial authorities. Zhu Hanqiao served as the Mayor of Qianjiang in 2007 and as the Secretary of the Qianjiang Municipal Committee from 2008 to 2013, preceding Zhang Guihua.
