On May 29th, a hot topic about “SF Express losing a bracelet worth 50,000 yuan and only compensating 67 yuan” surged to the top of the trending list, garnering attention.
According to a report by Guangdong Guangdian Chudian News, Ms. Chen from Foshan, Guangdong (pseudonym) recently purchased a jade bracelet worth 49,800 yuan online, but she was not satisfied with it upon delivery, so she decided to return it. On May 22nd, SF Express designated to pick up the item, but unexpectedly, the jade bracelet went missing.
Ms. Chen stated, “After the item was taken, the logistics showed that it was being delivered normally. It should have arrived on the evening of May 23rd, but I only received a call from a courier on the night of the 23rd saying that my item was lost.”
The next day, Ms. Chen and the courier reported the incident to the police and reviewed surveillance footage at the property management office in the community, finding that the package was lost in a blind spot of the surveillance, and its whereabouts could not be determined.
Ms. Chen expressed, “Just 5 minutes after taking my package, it disappeared.”
The person in charge of the SF Express branch involved claimed that the courier couldn’t have stolen it since he would have run away already if he did. They suggested that the package might have fallen off a pallet truck while in the community and was picked up by one of the residents.
Following this, Ms. Chen negotiated compensation with SF Express. However, as the package was not insured, SF Express only provided a compensation of 9 times the basic shipping fee of 7.5 yuan, totaling 67.5 yuan.
Ms. Chen contacted the merchant, who asserted that it was Ms. Chen who sent out the package and should be responsible for it.
However, Ms. Chen argued that she was returning the item, postage was covered by the merchant, and it had shipping insurance. She didn’t have the right to choose the courier or insurance options as it was decided by the merchant; she only initiated the return.
Currently, Ms. Chen is taking legal actions to resolve the issue.
In response, SF Express Group stated that as the package was not insured, they would negotiate compensation with the customer based on the terms for non-insured items. Since a consensus has not been reached, they will continue negotiations with the customer.
After the incident came to light, the topic “SF Express loses bracelet worth 50,000 yuan and only compensates 67 yuan” rose to the top of the trending list.
Many netizens commented, “Compensating 60 yuan? That’s too big of a gap.” “You already received the goods, it was in your possession, and you lost it, which is your responsibility and you must compensate.” “Even with insurance, they refuse to compensate, I’ve experienced it before.” “There have been many cases of valuable items going missing during shipping.” “This is outrageous, who would dare to ship anything in the future.”
According to a report by Sina Finance, for non-insured items, the compensation liability should be determined in accordance with relevant civil laws. In other words, regardless of whether the shipment is insured, the parties involved have the right to compensation.
