Heavy Rainfall and Flooding Hit Qinzhou, Guangxi

On May 10th, Qinzhou, Guangxi suffered from severe flooding due to heavy rainfall. Videos showed that the streets turned into rivers, with locals rowing boats on the roads and ambulances trapped in the middle of the flooded streets. The weather forecast indicates that Southern China will experience prolonged and intense rainfall for up to 10 days.

Recently, Qinzhou City in Guangxi province has been hit by heavy rainfall. On May 10th, the program “People’s Concern” from Guizhou TV reported that Qinzhou was severely affected by heavy rain, causing the city to be submerged and experiencing unusually severe urban floods.

Reports mentioned that on Wenhua Road in the city, the wide streets turned into waterways. Some residents used mattresses as rafts to navigate the water.

Videos showed that the urban area suffered from severe urban flooding, with many road sections submerged deeply, almost submerging cars, and even ambulances were stuck in the middle of the road, with water reaching half of their height. Some people were seen standing on what appeared to be planks, using long poles as paddles to move through the water.

According to China Weather Network on May 10th, there was intense short-term heavy rainfall of 40-50 millimeters per hour in Qinzhou from 3 am to 8 am. By 10 am on the same day, Qinzhou had accumulated 227.6 millimeters of rainfall in 12 hours, reaching the level of severe rainfall.

Reports indicated that the occurrence of heavy rainfall suggests the start of a new cycle of nearly 10 days of intense precipitation, with the intensity of rainfall expected to increase. The core rain area showed a trend of moving eastward and pressing southward.

It is expected that the southern regions will continue to experience rainfall in the next ten days. Starting from the 12th, the rainfall will move southward, and the coastal areas of South China will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain. On the 14th and 15th, a new round of widespread rainfall is expected, with regions from Guizhou to the southern part of Jiangnan and South China expected to have moderate to heavy rain, locally heavy rain, or even severe rainfall. Another round of rainfall is also expected around the 18th in the southern regions.

Previously, on May 6th, sudden flash floods occurred in rural areas of Cenxi City in Guangxi, resulting in two fatalities. On the same day, heavy rainfall hit multiple areas in Guangdong, with urban flooding and severe waterlogging reported in Guangzhou.
