4 dead as small boat capsizes in reservoir in Hainan

Recently, a tragic incident occurred at Xiaomei Reservoir in Lingshui County, Hainan Province, where five people fell into the water, resulting in the drowning death of four individuals.

According to a statement from the Lingshui County Fire and Rescue Brigade in Hainan Province, on the afternoon of May 8th, three men and two women, equipped with a fiberglass boat purchased online, were suspected to be fishing at Xiaomei Reservoir. Unfortunately, the boat capsized in the middle of the reservoir when it reached the center. One of the men swam to the shore and alerted authorities, while the other four individuals fell into the water.

On the evening of the 8th, a local official told Red Star News that the four people who fell into the water were on a boat, with one person operating it. They were likely there for fishing. The drowning incident happened in the middle of a mountain ditch within the reservoir, not close to the dam.

On the morning of the 9th, the bodies of the four individuals who drowned were recovered from the reservoir, all confirmed to have died from drowning.

In recent times, incidents of drowning have been on the rise.

On May 6th at noon, in the Yinheng Beitang community in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, a seven-year-old boy drowned in a decorative pond and passed away despite being rushed to the hospital for treatment.

On May 3rd at noon, a young man named Wang Long from Qingdao, Shandong Province, was on a trip with his family in Boshan District, Zibo. He tragically drowned in a deep water area while attempting to rescue a boy who had fallen into the water.

On April 26th, in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, a young swimming coach drowned during breath-holding training.

On April 14th, in Jin’an District, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, a man drowned while swimming at a deep pool near Eel Creek Bus Stop heading towards Guling.

These unfortunate incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of water safety and the need for caution when engaging in water-related activities. Remembering to always prioritize safety measures can help prevent such tragedies in the future.
