According to a report from CCTV News client, starting from 10:00 am on April 12th, the wind force in Beijing has entered its strongest period, with an average wind force of up to 6 on the Beaufort scale by 10:00 pm. Gusts in the plain areas can reach 9 to 11 on the Beaufort scale, while in areas such as Yanqing, Changping, Mentougou, Fangshan, Huairou, Pinggu, and Miyun, gusts can reach as high as 11 to 13 on the Beaufort scale. An orange warning for strong winds is currently in effect.
Due to the impact of the strong winds, many trees in Beijing have been blown down and vehicles have been damaged.
The Beijing Emergency Command Center stated that as of 10:00 on the 12th, a total of 288 trees have fallen across the city, resulting in power lines being down in 7 locations and 19 vehicles being crushed. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities caused by the strong winds, and there have been no reports of unusual incidents involving ancient or rare trees.
Furthermore, according to information from the Beijing Youth Daily obtained from the Municipal Landscaping and Greening Bureau, as of 11:00 on the 12th, a total of 335 parks in the city have been closed, with all 13 municipal parks closed. All 67 ongoing landscaping and greening construction sites in the city have been suspended, and measures are being taken to handle the fallen trees, totaling 402 trees.
In addition, based on reports from the CCTV News client and other sources, four marathons scheduled for the weekend have been postponed, some passenger trains in Beijing have been suspended, 15 segments of the ground elevated lines on the Beijing Metro have been halted, and 413 flights have been canceled at the Capital Airport.
In Xiong’an New Area located in Hebei province, primary and secondary schools, kindergartens, and extracurricular training institutions have also suspended classes starting from the afternoon of the 11th.
Videos circulating online show that on the evening of the 11th, heavy rain and hail fell in Pinggu District, Beijing.
On the morning of the 12th, a Beijing netizen posted on a social media platform saying, “Woke up to find the roof of the small bungalow downstairs missing.”
Predictions indicate that on April 13th, the strong winds in Beijing will persist, with northerly winds reaching about 5 on the Beaufort scale and gusts reaching 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale. Gusts in the western and northern regions are expected to exceed level 9, with the wind only expected to weaken by the afternoon of next Monday, marking the ultimate end of this period of extremely strong wind weather.
