2 dead in flooding in Guangxi, severe water accumulation in Guangdong

On May 6th, severe floods struck the rural areas of Cenxi City in Guangxi, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of two individuals. Simultaneously, heavy rains caused flooding in various parts of Guangdong on the same day, with Guangzhou experiencing severe waterlogging.

Authorities in Guangxi reported continuous heavy rainfall on the 6th of May, causing a sudden flood in villages such as Liufei in Botang Town of Cenxi City in the afternoon. Two individuals were reported missing in the incident. By approximately 9 p.m. on the same day, the two missing persons were found, but unfortunately, showed no signs of life.

In addition to Guangxi, multiple areas in Guangdong province were also hit by heavy rainfall.

On the 6th of May, heavy rainfall was observed in various parts of Guangdong. According to reports from Xinhua News Agency, some roads in Guangzhou city suffered from waterlogging, leading to significant accumulation of water. The meteorological department reported that Tongyouping in Jiulong Town of Yingde City received nearly 90 millimeters of rainfall.

The Guangzhou metro also faced difficulties on the evening of the 6th. The Guangzhou Metro issued a statement that evening, stating that around 8 p.m., due to thunderstorm weather conditions, a section of the contact network in the Xilang depot of Line 1 was struck by lightning, resulting in a momentary flash of fire, followed by a brief period of gate failures.

Guangdong has been repeatedly hit by heavy rainfall recently, leading to instances of flooding in the region.

Prior reports documented the severity of the situation, with video footage showing low-level buildings submerged and cars being swept away by the floods in Guangdong. Cities such as Zhongshan reported water levels as high as waist-deep, prompting warnings for residents in Zhuhai to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
