Located just steps away from Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, the San Francisco High School of the Arts will be offering three sessions of summer camps starting in June this year. Registration is now open for interested participants.
The school will provide a diverse range of summer courses for students aged five and above, including dance, painting, and youth art camps, allowing children to explore the world of art, and have a fun and meaningful summer.
Principal Dr. Sherry Zhang of San Francisco High School of the Arts expressed, “Students who are interested in art, by joining the summer camp, can not only improve their basic skills but also enhance their abilities in fun-filled classes. It is a rare opportunity to take skills to the next level and will be a very special summer”. She emphasized that the teachers hired by the school are not only experts in art but also very experienced and patient, enabling children to learn and grow in joy.
Summer camp courses will be divided based on children’s varying ages and skill levels. Additionally, the school will provide students with a hearty hot lunch daily, as well as early drop-off (8:30-9:00 AM) and late pick-up (4:30-5:30 PM) services.
Courses including Chinese dance, ballet, Tai Chi, flexibility training, and more will be taught by teachers with high-quality professional backgrounds and teaching experience at the camp.
Leading the ballet class is Teacher Wei Dongsheng, who was a principal dancer at the Atlanta Ballet for 14 years and has been teaching dance for over 25 years. His students have performed on America’s Got Talent and won awards in renowned international competitions.
Cynna, who previously attended the dance training camp, greatly enjoyed the ballet classes. She mentioned that in just three weeks of the summer camp, her skills improved significantly, and most importantly, she developed a strong interest in ballet, expressing her intent to learn more diligently.
Nancy, who also participated in the ballet class, appreciated the attention to detail at the training camp, stating, “The dance teachers are excellent at analyzing and addressing students’ problem areas to provide targeted corrections”.
In the advanced Chinese dance class, the award-winning choreographer Teacher Hanna will teach.
The painting course will help children above the age of 10 learn rich theoretical knowledge such as chiaroscuro and color contrast, focus on traditional technical skills training, and practice outdoor sketching. At the end of the camp, an art exhibition will be held on campus to showcase the participants’ works.
Annie excitedly mentioned that she greatly benefited from the three-week painting course in the summer, stating, “I not only learned painting techniques but also made many friends”.
Ariel, who had not previously studied charcoal drawing, found the charcoal course at the camp to be a challenge. However, she gradually developed a liking for this skill and found confidence in it.
Designed for students aged 6-12, the camp offers courses in dance, painting, music, crafts, outdoor activities, and more, which are loved by both children and parents due to the exciting and compact activity schedule.
Darlia, who had participated in the summer youth art camp before, described the diverse daily courses including ballet, Tai Chi, flexibility training, painting, and stage performances. She particularly enjoyed the flexibility training and expressed, “Flipping is really fun”.
After Sawyer’s first participation in the youth art camp, she was very happy and mentioned that she liked the Chinese dance class the most. If she were to rate the summer camp, she would give it full marks, appreciating the teachers’ patience and willingness to help every student.
