In Pennsylvania, the Asian American voter community is rapidly growing and played a significant role in the 2024 election. According to data from APIA Vote, the number of AAPI voters in Pennsylvania has increased by 32% since 2012, with over 400,000 Asian American voters in the state as of 2024.
While Asian American voters in Pennsylvania have traditionally leaned towards supporting Democratic candidates, the election results in 2024 show a shift in voting preferences within this community, with an increase in support for the Republican party as well. According to exit polls by Edison Research, 54% of Asian American voters this year supported Hao Jinli, while 39% supported Trump. In 2020, Biden received 61% of the Asian American vote, while Trump received 34%.
Dr. Grace Shu, Senior Advisor to the U.S. Federal Government Public Health Service and Chair of the U.S. Asian American Voters Alliance, Minority Chair of the Pennsylvania Republican Party Committee, and Chair of the National Chinese American Republican Alliance, expressed gratitude to the active participation of Asian American voters in Pennsylvania in the 2024 election.
Dr. Grace Shu stated on December 4th: “Currently, there are 473,192 Asian Americans in Pennsylvania, accounting for approximately 3.7% of the state’s population. In this swing state, the votes of Asian American voters are crucial for both major political parties.”
Dr. Jason Shu, MD, shared with Dajiyuan: “Compared to 2020, President Trump performed better among Asian American voters in 2024, particularly in areas such as Philadelphia, Bucks County, Montgomery County, the central region of Pennsylvania, and Dauphin County, which also impacted the results of statewide elections.”
