In a recent announcement on December 4th, President-elect Trump (Donald Trump) nominated economist Peter Navarro to once again serve as the White House Senior Advisor for Trade and Manufacturing. Trump took to the social media platform “Truth Social” to share the news, stating, “I am pleased to announce that Navarro will be serving as my Senior Advisor for Trade and Manufacturing.”
During his first term, Trump emphasized that few have been as effective and resolute as Navarro in enforcing his two rules: buying American goods and hiring American workers.
Trump credited Navarro for his role in renegotiating trade agreements such as the NAFTA and KORUS, as well as swiftly advancing his tariff and trade actions. Trump has long criticized past trade agreements as unfair.
Navarro was also involved in the entire process of the U.S.-China phase one trade negotiations, often considered to be a hawk towards China by outsiders.
Trump also mentioned that Navarro had faced harsh treatment from the Deep State.
Last year, Navarro was indicted for contempt of Congress for refusing to appear before the U.S. House Select Committee investigating the events of January 6. A jury found him guilty on two counts of contempt of Congress, resulting in a four-month prison sentence.
Navarro reported to federal prison authorities in March of this year, becoming the first member of Trump’s inner circle to be incarcerated in connection with the events at the Capitol on January 6 and efforts to overturn the election results.
Trump has repeatedly voiced his support for Navarro, calling him a “good man” and a “great patriot” who faced “very unfair treatment.”
Following his release on July 17th, Navarro emerged from Miami Federal Prison and quickly attended the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on the same day.
Addressing the media, he expressed his determination to win the election by not only uniting the Republican Party but also the entire nation, reaching out to dissatisfied Democrats who are disenchanted with the radical left.
Navarro highlighted that many mainstream Democrats have felt disenfranchised and lost interest in the radical left, emphasizing the message of unity as the key to moving forward.
