In a recent scandal at the People’s Hospital in Ningling County, Shangqiu City, Henan Province, it has been revealed that staff members have been involved in the illegal practice of selling infants. These infants, who have been sold, were officially certified and their identities were whitewashed. The span of this case extends over 13 years.
On November 1st, a well-known anti-human trafficking volunteer, Shangguan Zhengyi, posted on Weibo accusing Wang, a driver for the hospital’s 120 emergency service, of colluding with the former head of the hospital’s obstetrics department since 2011 to provide baby girls to multiple villagers in the area.
The age range of these sold baby girls is from over 2 years old to 13 years old. Shangguan Zhengyi disclosed that these children who were trafficked have all obtained birth certificates from the local hospital to launder their identities.
According to Shangguan Zhengyi, based on the information he has, these children were sold by Wang through connections with the former head of the obstetrics department, spanning a period of 13 years. Moreover, these baby girls have obtained birth medical certificates from local healthcare institutions for the purpose of settling down.
For instance, one of the buyers, Yan, has admitted that she paid money to Wang for a female infant, then proceeded to obtain a birth certificate for the infant and registered the infant as her own child.
Shangguan Zhengyi mentioned that he learned from the County Health Committee that since 2011, this buyer had no records of giving birth to a baby girl nor any documentation of issuing a birth certificate. The buyer used a birth certificate from the Ningling County Hospital to register the bought infant.
After the incident was exposed, local authorities reported that “4 persons involved have been subjected to criminal coercive measures.” However, the hospital claimed that the involved person, Wang, is an “outsourced employee.”
Shangguan Zhengyi raised seven questions on Weibo: 1. How many children has Wang sold through the former head of the obstetrics department at the hospital? 2. Where do the children sold by Wang and the former head of the obstetrics department come from? 3. Are there other accomplices of Wang and the former head of the obstetrics department at the People’s Hospital in Ningling County and in society? 4. How were the children sold by Wang able to obtain birth certificates from the Ningling County Hospital? 5. Where did the birth certificates of Zimou and Yan come from? 6. How much profit did Wang and the former head of the obstetrics department make from selling these children? 7. How many more children are involved in the case of Wang and the former head of the obstetrics department that we are not aware of?
Public records show that the People’s Hospital in Ningling County is the sole national second-class Grade A comprehensive hospital in the county, integrating medical treatment, emergency care, teaching, research, and prevention. It has been praised as a “National Satisfied Hospital for the Public” and an “Advanced Grassroots Party Organization.” It is a cooperative hospital with medical institutions such as Beijing Dongzhimen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Henan Provincial People’s Hospital.
Following the media report on the infant trafficking incident, it has sparked public attention and discussions.
Netizen comments:
– Pandoramic Views: The “120 driver” at the People’s Hospital in Ningling County, Henan Province, colluded with the obstetrics department to traffic infants, yet the hospital shamelessly claims that only outsourced employees were involved, and regular employees were not… Is the hospital now trying to shift the blame onto temporary workers? Hell is empty, and the devil is here on earth!
– RabbitRabbitabcd0707: First, are parents selling their children? Secondly, if mothers are told their children died, then it’s not just the head of the obstetrics department but the entire obstetrics department colluding. Thirdly, being able to whitewash a child’s identity and obtain a birth certificate is not something one person can accomplish alone.
– Power Like Flames – Giant: There must be doctors involved, even the department director, maybe even the hospital leader, otherwise how can an ambulance driver have such capability?
– Silent Nation1: While ordinary people are working tirelessly to combat child trafficking, some people are whitewashing the sale and processing birth certificates.
– Outspoken Yet Appropriate: This society is too crazy, the price of rapid economic development is the loss of conscience, and when the economy no longer grows rapidly, various social malpractices gradually surface. The demographic dividend now sounds somewhat ironic.
