Pregnant Woman Blacklisted by Surrogacy Agency Sparks Concern for Women’s Rights

Surrogacy is a hot topic once again, as a woman who had just given birth was introduced to a surrogacy agency in Chengdu, but was forced to give up the process due to failed blood tests. Upon returning home, she discovered she was pregnant and tried to communicate with the surrogacy agency, only to be blacklisted. The woman has since taken legal action to protect her rights.

According to well-known child trafficking volunteer “Shangguan Zhengyi,” on October 30th, a 28-year-old woman named Xiao Juan (pseudonym) who had just given birth was introduced to a surrogacy opportunity in Chengdu where she was promised to earn 240,000 RMB.

However, Xiao Juan was sent to Guiyang by the surrogacy agency, but her blood test results did not meet the requirements, leading the agency to abandon the arrangement and send her back home. Upon returning home, Xiao Juan discovered she was pregnant on her own. The surrogacy agency refused to acknowledge her as a client, claiming the client had restarted the surrogacy process and they would no longer provide financial support for her pregnancy or abortion costs.

As a result, Xiao Juan borrowed money from friends to travel to Chengdu and confront the surrogacy agency. She said, “They asked me to go home, carry the baby to term, have a DNA test to confirm it’s their client’s, and then return to them. I have no money to support the pregnancy, undergo check-ups, give birth, or return home.”

She regretted being pressured by life to listen to her friend and get involved in this, ending up in such a situation.

According to the Xiaoxiang Morning Post, Xiao Juan is currently residing in a dormitory provided by the surrogacy agency, sharing the room with two other prospective surrogate mothers who will be sent home the next day, leaving Xiao Juan at risk of eviction. The agency’s contact person, “Wang Mouming,” has blacklisted her and cannot be reached.

On October 30th, this incident became a hot topic on Weibo. Many netizens expressed sympathy, saying, “She’s being left high and dry. What will she do with a growing belly? Poor woman!” “Stop making money this way. Poor baby.”

Many netizens believe that “renting one’s own organs, pricing the born child to others after carrying it for ten months, not only violates ethics and morality but is also illegal! If this woman did it voluntarily, were there others who were forced into it? This is very disturbing and must be rigorously investigated!” “It’s too frightening.” “Be accountable for life, be accountable for actions.” “Both parties in the transaction are at fault.”

Some revealed, “There are actually many surrogacy companies in Chengdu; I discovered many when looking for a job before.”

Surrogacy issues have been frequently reported this year. Previously, an illegal surrogacy industry in Qingdao was exposed in August, drawing attention from both domestic and international audiences.

On the evening of October 30th, the Qingdao Municipal Health Commission reported that the responsible persons of Qingdao Meike Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and Qingdao Chunyun IVF Consultation Co., Ltd. suspected of engaging in surrogacy were arrested by the public security organs. Five implicated doctors, including doctors Li, Zhang, Qian, Sun from Qingdao Women and Children’s Hospital, and Nurse Ning from Qingdao Tianan Maternity Hospital, were punished, including revocation of their medical licenses. The units involved and those responsible were held accountable.
