New South Wales Parliament Supports Taiwan, Passes UN Resolution 2758 without Involving Taiwan.

The New South Wales Parliament in Australia has passed a bipartisan motion supporting Taiwan’s international participation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expressed gratitude for the voice of justice being raised for Taiwan and called on the international community to jointly counter the Chinese Communist Party’s improper interpretation of UN Resolution 2758 and its attempt to erroneously link it to the so-called “One China Principle.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China issued a press release stating that the Upper House of the New South Wales Parliament in Australia unanimously passed PMB No. 1414 Motion on the 23rd, stating that UN Resolution 2758 does not assert the People’s Republic of China’s sovereignty over Taiwan, nor determine Taiwan’s future status, nor limit Taiwan’s right to participate in UN bodies or other international organizations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China noted its strong affirmation and sincere gratitude for the steadfast support of our country’s international participation by the New South Wales Parliament.

The Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that the New South Wales Parliament had previously taken the lead in June of this year in passing a motion in the Upper House condemning the Chinese Communist Party for bullying Australian elected officials, affirming Taiwan’s democracy, and rejecting any attempts by foreign governments to interfere in Australian domestic affairs. The Australian Federal Senate subsequently passed an emergency motion in August adopting the “Model Resolutions by National Parliaments on UN Resolution 2758” proposed by the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC), making Australia the first country globally to adopt such a model through a motion, with New South Wales becoming the first state parliament in Australia to pass the motion.

The Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to the New South Wales Parliament for voicing justice for the Republic of China and called on the international community to jointly counter the Chinese Communist Party’s improper interpretation of UN Resolution 2758 and its attempts to erroneously link it to the so-called “One China Principle.” Taiwan will continue to cooperate with Australia and other like-minded partners to defend the rules-based international order, promote regional democracy, peace, and prosperity.
