iPhone 16’s first three weeks of sales in China see a 20% increase, overall sales volume drops

According to data from research firm Counterpoint, the new iPhone model from Apple has shown strong performance in China with sales in the first three weeks since its launch increasing by 20% compared to the 2023 model.

Apple and Huawei both released their latest smartphones in China on the same day, September 20, underscoring the intensifying competition in the world’s largest smartphone market.

In recent years, Apple’s market share in China has been gradually eroded by domestic competitors. However, the latest data indicates that there is still a significant number of loyal Apple fans on the Chinese mainland.

Counterpoint stated, “We see strong sales of the iPhone 16 series in China.”

The data from the company shows that the performance of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models stands out, with a combined sales growth of 44% compared to the 2023 models.

However, overall iPhone sales in China have decreased by 2% compared to the same period last year, mainly due to a decrease in sales of older models and intensified competition with Huawei’s Mate and Pura series.

In the second quarter of this year, Apple’s smartphone sales in China dropped from third place to sixth place, with a market share of 14%, a two-percentage-point decrease from the first quarter. Huawei rose to become the third largest supplier with a market share of 15%, following Vivo and Oppo in first and second place. Honor and Huawei are tied for third place.

The starting price of the iPhone 16 in mainland China is 5,999 yuan.
