Palau Minister of Foreign Affairs Visits Taiwan, Attends Palau Investment Opportunity Seminar

【Epoch Times News, October 12, 2024】 The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Palau, Gus, led a delegation to attend the “Palau Investment Opportunities Seminar” in Taichung on the 11th, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with 30 industry representatives in attendance. This seminar, actively promoted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu, demonstrates concrete achievements in promoting economic and trade diplomacy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated that Frutoso Tellei, a member of the visiting delegation and a member of the Palau House of Delegates, delivered a speech on behalf of Minister Gus, expressing gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Taichung City Government for organizing the event. Members of the delegation were pleased to see the deepening economic cooperation between Palau and Taiwanese industries, injecting vitality into the economies of both nations.

Tellei expressed that Palau welcomes all investments and will provide Taiwanese businesses with quality investment conditions and necessary assistance, hoping that the economic and trade exchanges between the two countries will further strengthen the longstanding partnership between Taiwan and Palau.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan stated that the seminar was actively promoted by Minister Joseph Wu, following the visit of the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce Asia General Assembly delegation to Palau in September and the visit of Palau President Surangel Whipps, Jr. to Taiwan to witness the signing of the “Joint Declaration on Promoting Palau Tourism Development and Investment.” This further underscores the concrete results of Taiwan’s efforts in promoting economic and trade diplomacy.

The “Palau Investment Opportunities Seminar” in the central region saw approximately 30 industry representatives from sectors including import-export trade, food processing, hospitality, precision machinery, bakery, and construction in attendance.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan stated that it will continue to promote economic and trade diplomacy, leveraging the abundant energy of private enterprises to explore quality investment opportunities in Palau and assist in economic development, deepening the close friendship between the two countries.

In addition to attending the “Palau Investment Opportunities Seminar,” Minister Gus’ delegation also signed the “Sister City Agreement between the State of Beautiful Hills and Taichung City” with Governor Henaro Polloi of Beautiful Hills State, and Mayor Lu Shiow-yen of Taichung City, witnessed by Minister Gus and Lan Hsia-li, Director-General of the Department of Asia-Pacific Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation is expected to visit Kaohsiung on the 12th and depart from Taiwan on the 14th.
