A tragic traffic accident occurred on the evening of October 2 on Changjiang Avenue in Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province, resulting in the death of a family of three.
On October 9, a netizen posted on social media, “Today was supposed to be my grandson’s first birthday. However, he has left us forever. My only son, daughter-in-law, and grandson were hit by a car with Guangdong license plate speeding at 120 mph in the city center. My daughter-in-law and grandson died on the spot, and my son passed away after being rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Our family has suffered a devastating tragedy.”
The netizen, Ms. Hu, told Da Wanhua News on October 11 that the accident happened around 6:40 pm on October 2. Her son, daughter-in-law, and their young child were crossing the road to her house for dinner when a man driving a Guangdong-licensed sedan raced past them, striking the family of three who had no time to evade the collision. To this day, she and her husband are still consumed by immense grief.
Ms. Hu later learned that the young driver intentionally drove recklessly at a speed of 128.9 km/h in a speed-restricted area due to a quarrel with his girlfriend.
An eyewitness confirmed in the comments section: “I witnessed the whole process on the opposite lane, the man was hit onto the windshield and then flew onto the guardrail. The scene was unbearable. Moreover, the driver did not immediately check on the injured on the ground upon getting out of the car. He first helped the passenger on the sidewalk before looking at the injured on the ground and then made a phone call. The specific time was 6:45 pm on October 2.”
On October 11, the Jingdezhen police reported that the driver responsible for the accident was Liao, aged 20. After investigation and examination, it was determined that Liao was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs and bore full responsibility for the accident. On October 3, Liao was criminally detained for suspected traffic offense.
