Experts: Maintaining this temperature in the bathroom can prevent mold growth

As autumn arrives and winter approaches, residents in some areas may start using heaters as temperatures drop. While a cozy home can be comforting, poorly ventilated areas like bathrooms may experience higher temperatures and humidity, increasing the likelihood of mold growth. Experts suggest that maintaining a specific temperature range in bathrooms throughout the year can help prevent mold growth.

According to a report by the UK’s “Daily Express,” Henry Maia, Vice President of the American home repair service company Mineral Tiles, stated that setting the correct temperature inside bathrooms is a key factor in combating mold.

Maia noted, “Mold thrives in damp environments. By maintaining a consistent and appropriate temperature, homeowners can make it difficult for mold spores to survive, thereby protecting their health and the quality of their homes.”

He recommended keeping the bathroom temperature within a specific range all year to prevent the spread of dangerous mold spores, with the ideal temperature being between 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 22 degrees Celsius).

Maintaining the bathroom within this temperature range can reduce the chances of mold growth. By proactively managing temperature and humidity, homeowners can maintain a clean and comfortable living environment throughout the winter.

Maia emphasized that ensuring continuous ventilation in the bathroom can greatly reduce moisture accumulation, which is crucial for mold prevention. Instead of briefly opening windows, it is more effective to open small ventilation openings during the day when the bathroom is less frequently used, facilitating better airflow.

In addition, Maia provided other tips to reduce humidity and prevent mold growth:

-Equip the bathroom with an effective exhaust fan and use it during and after showers to remove excess moisture from the air.

-Use a hygrometer to monitor indoor humidity levels, which should be kept below 50% to lower the risk of mold growth. Signs of high humidity may include condensation or damp spots on windows, mirrors, or tiles, and even peeling plaster or paint.

-Using an electric heated towel rack can keep towels dry and warm, enhancing comfort and helping to dry out steam and moisture, thereby preventing mold growth.

-Keeping bathroom doors closed can prevent cold air from entering and warm air from escaping, improving air conditioning efficiency and reducing costs.

-After using the bathroom, leaving the door open allows warm air to circulate throughout the house, helping to maintain a comfortable temperature and allowing excess steam to naturally dissipate.
